  • Aimed at advanced amateurs looking for a second camera or a point-and-shoot alternative to an entry-level DSLR or Micro Four Thirds ILC, Canon has announced the G3 X for 2015. It sits next to the G1 X Mark II as this series' co-flagship model, and slightl...

  • We concluded our reviews of the PowerShot G1X Mark II and G7X by stating The lack of a built-in viewfinder is always a deal-breaker for us and we're still of that opinion. Particularly in the Southern Hemisphere, where skies are often clear, a viewfinder...

  • Image quality, especially in RAW, is good. Obviously the best pictures are taken when the zoom is set in its middle range, but with care the quality at 600mm is better than acceptable. If anything there is a slight over-sharpening which results in moire interference in fine detail such as bird feathers
  • The absence of an eye level viewfinder at this price is puzzling. It is not possible to hold a camera at arm’s length and keep it steady with a lens zoomed to 600mm. The theoretically optional EVF is, in fact, essential. The LCD does not perform well in bright sunlight, making it difficult to check framing, focus and exposure
  • This camera is too big too big to be a compact that fits a pocket or bag. It is too expensive for the casual user. It is under-featured for a serious amateur. It has one selling feature, the incredibly long zoom, but the image quality at 600mm is not good...

  • Abstract:  A while back, camera makers decided that people want to zoom in really, really far. More recently, they also realized people want great image quality and advanced controls. (Who'da thought!?) Here are new two cameras that do both. Let's see which is worth...

  • No electronic viewfinder, No 4K video
  • The G3 X is a versatile camera with excellent still image quality, decent video quality and a solid, water-resistant build. While a little hefty, I reckon it'd be a fantastic camera to take travelling. If you've got £800 (RM5239) to spend on a compact, the...

  • Abstract:  Currently, if you own a DSLR and want a super-telephoto zoom lens, your cheapest options will be the Sigma 150-600mm and Tamron 150-600mm lenses. If mounted on APS-C cameras, the 1.6x crop factor yields you a 240-960mm full-frame equivalent focal range. H...

  • Abstract:  There is plenty to like about the PowerShot G3 X. First, it has a large one-inch image sensor, similar to that of the Sony Cyber-shot RX100 series. Second, it has a 25x optical zoom lens with a range of 24mm to 600mm, which should cover most shooting occa...
