TestSeek's Expert Reviews Summary

The Canon IXUS 80 IS is a small, sleek but powerful camera with a weight of only 125g. It has an advantage of not having a whole bundle of features stuffed in, but just the essentials. It has the all important optical image stabilizer, a full auto-mode which scrutinizes the light situations plus reduces the blur effect from images.

There is also a unique shutter with a custom-timer fit in, giving the user the freedom to select how long it should take between shots.

The camera also offers a wide range of ISO speeds to select from, 80 – 1600. The colour-swap and the colour accent features are also part of the package, which enables one to change one colour for another in the image, or retain one colour and make the remaining black & white, respectively..

The editors were especially impressed with the high image quality, especially for images including deep colours.

The editors liked

  • Superb design and styling
  • High quality images with near-perfect resolution
  • A pinhole viewfinder
  • Lightweight and compact
  • Easy to handle, having very few buttons and easy to follow layouts..

The editors didn't like

  • LCD display is very tiny
  • Not many features
  • The lens is temperature conscious.

TestSeek's Conclusion

The Canon IXUS 80 IS is a tiny wonder, giving you all the features you require for a camera, plus durability, plus superior quality images. It is the perfect choice for those who want to own a compact camera along with features and image perfection. Overall, the reviewers pronounce it a very good buy.

  • Trendy, compact camera Wide views on LCD Image stabilization Cool picture effects Fast, accurate face detection
  • Weak, poorly-placed flash Tiny controls Poor handling Slow 1.3 fps Burst mode Flimsy battery door
  • The Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS makes quite a fashion statement with its multiple color offerings and body that is so compact it could get lost in your pocket. This Digital Elph makes some common sacrifices that all compact cameras make: handling isn&rsquo...

  • Little noise at high ISO settings. Image stabilization. Optical viewfinder. Antireflective LCD.
  • Function button is flat and hard to find by touch. Wide-angle lens is not as wide as the SD1000s.
  • The PowerShot SD1100 IS adds a few new features to its Editors Choice predecessor, but the SD1000 still cant be beat in terms of image quality and shooting flexibility....

  • Compact, stylish, optical image stabilisation, sharp images, lightning fast start-up time
  • A little noisy, burst mode is somewhat sluggish The Final Word Another brilliant IXUS unit, the Canon IXUS 80 IS packs image stabilisation and good image quality into a compact and sexy body. A great package for users looking for a new point and shoot.

  • As the new entry-level model in the already popular IXUS family, the 80 IS is almost perfect, especially with its S$429 price tag representing a new lower price point coupled with added features and a form factor thats negligibly larger than its non-...
