The editors liked

  • Anti-blur ability. Comfy to hold. Impressive 7x optical zoom
  • Definition is suprisingly good at low ISOs
  • 7x optical zoom is good in a camera of this size
  • Sports fans may be tempted by the 11fps shooting

The editors didn't like

  • Iffy accuracy on colours. Zoom sticky during use. Only standard-def movies
  • Average lens quality
  • Picture quality drops off rapidly as the ISO goes up
  • Face-detection modes are muddled and only partially effective
  • Cramped controls

  • Nikons flagship style cam is a bit of a divergence from last years Coolpix S710, one in which advanced shooters will not dig. The Nikon Coolpix S630 received a significant sensor and features downgrade, with only a 7x optical zoom in return. For 20...

  • Abstract:  One of the first things users will notice with the 12 mega pixel Coolpix S630 is what Nikon call its ‘Sure Grip body design’ which manifests as an interesting sweeping curve along the back of its body that, while subtle to the eye, is quite pr...

  • Accurate color, generally good exposure, 7X zoom lens in a compact, easy to hold body, Sensorshift image stabilization (but see issues below), Sharp 2.7" LCD is visible outdoors and in low light, Fast AF in good light, Tons of scene modes, plus an...

  • On paper, the Nikon Coolpix S630 sounds like an impressive camera. It offers a 7X zoom lens in a stylish, compact body that would normally house a 3X or 4X lens. It has all the required point-and-shoot features, including auto scene selection, face/smi...

  • The Nikon Coolpix S630 is a small camera with a lot of zoom and resolution. There’s optical image stabilization, a really, really nice, ergonomic grip (I can’t stop talking about it because it’s that good) and numerous point-and-shoot fe...

  • Excellent design; 7x optical zoom in a compact body; ISO range limiter; good photo quality up to ISO 400.
  • Slow performance; photos can look over-processed, soft.
  • The Nikon Coolpix S630 puts a little extra zoom in your pocket, but you might not find the high-resolution photos it shoots out pleasurable.

  • Very good colour, contrast, sharpness at ISO 64200, Very versatile 37260mm zoom lens, Plenty of automation plus essential overrides
  • idering the modest price, this camera deserves my Best Value award in the 12megapixel category.

  • 7x optical zoom, sturdy, 11 frames-per-second burst mode
  • Lens isn’t wide enough, images are somewhat soft, scroll wheel and camera shape take some getting used to
  • The CoolPix S630 isn’t one of Nikon’s best digital cameras. With sub-par image quality and an unconventional shape, it fails to be anything other than halfway decent. Still, if you’re in need of a powerful optical zoom and a versatile co...

  • 7x optical zoom in a compact body, Fast 11 frames per second burst mode
  • No wide-angle optics, Seems to dislike people with glasses, Noise issues
  • The S630 is a decent compact camera if you need speedy burst shooting in a small body with 7x optical zoom. Apart from that, theres little else to recommend this camera considering the disappointing image quality and expensive asking price. ...
