Compact and attractive body design, Good quality G lens with a 10x range from 25mm to 250mm, Optical Image Stabilization with "Active" movie mode, Exmor-R back-illuminated CMOS sensor, Bionz processor performs some great tricks (like the foll...
Zooming is too jerky for precise composition, Only two apertures, ND filter used, No contrast, sharpness or saturation controls, No Aperture Priority or Shutter Priority modes, Both Dynamic Range Optimization and SteadyShot image stabilization are auto...
That's a longer list of Cons than I expected. The Con items themselves represent relatively minor issues or misplaced expectations whereas the Pro items represent real value. So don't let the list fool you. Let the Sony HX5V fool you instead. Turn...
10x zoom with 25mm wide angle, HD movies at up to 1080i, Built-in GPS with compass, Very fast continuous shooting at 10fps, Innovative and effective auto modes.
No location names on-screen from GPS, GPS often slower to lock-on than Lumix TZ10 / ZS7, Low noise claims not realised. No better than rivals, Adjustable 'aperture' of very limited use.
Sony's first pocket super-zoom hits the ground running with a feature-set which genuinely stands out from the competition. None of its rivals feature 10fps continuous shooting, 1080i video recording, or the same degree of innovation and consistent suc...
Abstract: The Sony Cyber-shot HX5V is the world’s first camera that integrates GPS and Compass functions, as well as Sony's unique Sweep Panorama function. It features a 25-250mm (equivalent) lens and a 10.2-megapixel Exmor R ™ CMOS sensor. The built-in HDR (Hi...
Panorama, low-light and backlight correction modes; GPS receiver and compass for geotagging; excellent colour accuracy and low-light performance
No aperture-priority or shutter-priority modes, geotagging requires software on a Windows PC, images aren't always sharp
Don't call Sony's GPS-enabled, feature-loaded DSC-HX5V a gimmick camera. It supplements its in-camera goodies with great image quality and terrific shooting modes...

Like: In ideal conditions and with ISO setting no higher than 200 the image results are good. The curious Twilight Handheld and Backlight Correction modes do improve pictures in some conditions.
Dislike: The noise reduction is aggressive, smudging fine detail. It cannot be turned off and it is applied at all ISO speeds, so we were not able to test the claims made for the Exmor sensor. In fact the extreme NR produces much the same results from the
Speedy shooting performance , Compact, lightweight design , Plenty of fun, useful features , Very good low-light photo quality for a compact camera
Soft photos, videos , Limited manual controls , GPS can't quickly be powered on and off
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX5V has shooting options for solving common snapshot camera issues, but some users still won't be thrilled with the results....
Abstract: Despite designing its Cyber-shot primarily for snapshooters, DSC-HX5V Sony has included some features to appeal to photo enthusiasts. For starters, there's the new Exmor R (back-illuminated) CMOS sensor, which provides a sensible effective resolution o...
If the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX5V was a cellphone it would have been one of today’s feature rich smartphones. There are an incredible amount of cool features to discover on this camera, not the least of which being its GPS geo-tagging capabilities, a coo...
