The editors didn't like

  • Bland design that is more functional than inspirational
  • Costs as much as a very good digital SLR which would offer marginally better picture quality
  • Some will prefer to twin this with a manual zoom for more precise control
  • Slow to start up (over two seconds to take a first photo)
  • Interface for installing applications isn't great and only Sony apps are available
  • No touchscreen
  • Entering text or passwords can be a pain
  • Screen doesn't twist around
  • Costs as much as a very good DSLR if buying lens too
  • NEX range design continues to be blandly functional rather than inspired
  • Battery life needs to be better
  • Low-light autofocus lacks feedback and accuracy
  • Wi-Fi not as smooth as we'd like
  • Inconsistent white balance under artificial light
  • Recessed buttons can be fiddly

  • Yes. It's an all-around great camera. There are brands out there that do specific things better, like the Olympus OM-D E-M5 for autofocus and lens selection, and the Fuji X-E1 for image quality. But none can do great video and great stills with such ease.

  • Compact body with excellent ergonomics, Sharp and detail rich images, Onboard Wi-Fi and apps support, Built-in tiltable flash
  • Movie button is placed awkwardly, camera options are scattered through several menus
  • The NEX-6 is one power-packed mirrorless camera. It's got Wi-Fi, an OLED EVF with a crazy resolution, a tilt-swivel screen and great ergonomics. As for performance, it's got very impressive image quality and coupled up with a superb AF system, we see the ...

  • Takes great shots with the right settings and lens, Has WiFi features
  • Artifacts in images after 3200 ISO, Weak builtin flash
  • The Sony NEX-6 takes some really awesome shots, and depending on the package, you can get both the 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 lens and the 50-200mm lens for a wide variety of shot options. Definitely one to consider if you're ready for an upgrade to a more powerf...

  • Comfortable to hold, Easy access to manual controls, Good image quality, Fast and accurate AF
  • Inelegant menu interface, Images tend to underexpose, Colors are a tad muted, Live view appears more saturated than photographed image
  • Using the Sony NEX-6 was more like using an APS-C DSLR camera than we'd expected. Like a DSLR, the NEX-6 has a control dial and rear control wheel which makes it easy to switch manual settings like aperture and shutter speed. The NEX-6 doesn't have the we...

  • f/9 at 27mm, 1/250 sec, ISO 100.The Sony NEX-6 comes with a hybrid AF (auto-focus) system, which combines the phase-detection AF found in DSLR cameras and the contrast-detection AF found in compact and mirrorless system cameras. In theory, that should pro...
