The editors didn't like

  • Lens-heavy design
  • Hard to use in dark conditions
  • Orange AF illuminator is poor in dark conditions
  • Flash is clip-on rather than built-in
  • ‘improved' user interface could do with being less esoteric still
  • Video isn't Full HD
  • Screen flexibility could be further improved
  • Zoom lens
  • Over large bulk from Zoom
  • Not too fast
  • Battery life is a bit disappointing
  • Noisy shutterrelease
  • Not many lenses to choose from
  • No builtin stabilisation or flash (separate accessory included)
  • Handling could still be better
  • As expensive as an entrylevel SLR
  • No builtin flash
  • No built-in flash (just a clip-on plastic bulb)
  • Omits standard AV output (just HDMI and USB 2.0)
  • Menu navigation still fiddly
  • 720p movie mode lags behind rivals
  • 18-55mm kit lens unbalances overall package somewhat

  • Very nice to use and hold. Excellent LCD screen. Very good image and video quality. Fun and useful picture effects
  • Larger lenses can overwhelm the small body. Kit lens doesn't deliver the most from the sensor. Need to fiddle and delve in the menus to make the most of manual modes
  • Sony has created a great little interchangeable lens camera in the NEX-C3, although it's not exactly what we'd call compact with the kit lens attached....

  • The quality of images from the new sensor is consistently superb. The detail, colour, exposure and focus in JPEG form are comparable with the best DSLRs that use this same sensor. We set both focus and exposure to centre spot and mode to P and rarely had
  • Barrel and pincushion distortion at the focal length extremes is bad enough to be disturbing, particularly when taking photos of buildings. The absence of any sort of optical viewfinder makes framing in bright sun light almost impossible
  • We did our usual pseudo tourist test of the NEX-C3 to see how it performs in real world conditions. We were delighted with the results and not a little surprised. Most of the time we were shooting almost blind because the LCD is unreadable in bright sunli...

  • Abstract:  Like the original models the NEX-C3 is targeted at amateur photographers with minimal knowledge of photography and is being manufactured in black, silver and pink to meet a range of tastes. Potential buyers are quality-conscious snappers who know larger s...

  • Excellent image quality; superior noise performance; handy tilt screen.
  • In-camera menu interface could be more intuitive; can be bulky paired with the 18-55mm kit lens.
  • The NEX-C3 offers excellent image quality, superior low-light performance and a handy tilt screen in a tiny footprint. ...

  • Abstract:  Sony has added the NEX-C3 to its range of mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras. The C3 features the same 16.2MP seen in the SLT A35, again promising improved battery life. The latest model is directly aimed at offering a compact-camera-like experience ...

  • Small for an APS-C sensor camera; very good image quality.
  • Some basic settings buried in menus.
  • When it comes down to picture quality, the Sony Alpha NEX-C3 is the Little Engine That Could – you easily get image quality on par with most of the DSLRs out there in a much smaller package. If you use it like a point-and-shoot, then you'll probably l...

  • Abstract:  Small!Sony is a master of shrinking everything down, and it shows with the C3. Where the previous NEX3 is already a small beast, the C3 is even smaller – it is about 15-percent smaller than the diminutive NEX3. The only reason it is not any smaller is due...

  • Abstract:  The C3 marks the beginning of Sony's second generation of mirrorless, interchangeable lens camera under the NEX brand. Same as the NEX-3 and NEX-5 announced some 13 months ago, the NEX-C3 targets the compact digital camera users who are looking to upgrade...

  • excellent image quality, sensor size comparable to most consumer SLR cameras, more portable than a fullon SLR rig but as friendly to use as a pocket camera, Sony going for compatibility: video mode records in MP4 instead of AVCHD, camera takes SD in addit
  • limited selection of lenses in the Sony Emount range thus far, bundled external flash is fiddly and probably won't be mounted when you need it, form factor a little awkward, might take getting used to, image stabilization not built into the body, only on
