The editors liked

  • Storage performance is the focus of the DS415and it performs well at this task. The setup process is very easy for first time NAS appliance users and there are enough extras for users to be surprised by all of the functions available.
  • Fastest mid-range NAS yet
  • Slick
  • Intuive setup and user interface
  • Compact
  • Tough form factor
  • Quiet

The editors didn't like

  • Without the bells and whistles offered by some of the competing products in this price range we think the DS415is a bit overpriced.
  • More expensive than rivals
  • Only USB 2.0 on front facing port

  • Very fast network-transfer speeds in all possible configurations, Highly intuitive and easy-to-use operating system (OS) with a lot of features, DSM provides some crucial security options (antivirus application, AES 256-bit encryption, optional 2-Step log
  • RAM is not easily upgradeable (however, 2 GB will sufficiently cover every possible usage scenario), Not compatible with the ErP Lot 6 2013 directive, You cannot format an external disk into NTFS (however, external NTFS disks can be read/written properly)
  • The Synology DiskStation DS415+ retails for $599.99. Very fast network-transfer speeds in all possible configurations Highly intuitive and easy-to-use operating system (OS) with a lot of features DSM provides some crucial security options (antivirus appli...

  • Wide range of downloadable apps, Quiet
  • No HDMI or optical audio ports, Memory expansion voids warranty, RAID 5 read a bit slow
  • The DS415+ is targeted towards business users, yet has a very competitive price. Currently priced at $600, it's $49 cheaper than the higher ranked QNAP TS-453 Pro, but $70 more expensive than the DS415play. The QNAP sports four Gigabit Ethernet ports and...

  • Great overall performance, Minimal effect of encryption on performance, Upgraded RAM and CPU
  • Weaker 8k sequential iSCSI performance than QNAP TS-451
  • With upgraded RAM and processor (as well as a slew of other new features), the DS415+ proves to be a good step up from Synology's previous model mainline 4-bay SOHO NAS.Discuss This ReviewSynology HubSynology DS415+ at AmazonGA_googleFillSlot("sr_article_...

  • Synology hasn't really gone out on a limb with the DiskStation DS415+, for the most part it's a refined version of the more than 2 year old DS412+. That isn't necessarily a bad thing and constant refinement is what Synology does best.By taking their tried...

  • The Synology DS415+ as seen in our testing is a solid performing NAS appliance in all RAID configurations. This is largely due to its underlying Rangeley platform from Intel and also the NAS operating system (DSM). As with many NAS appliances, the heart...
