Abstract: The consumer Network Attached Storage (NAS) market has seen tremendous growth over the past few years. As the amount of digital media generated by the average household increases, the standard 2-bay NAS is no longer sufficient. Today, we are going to take...
Easy remote access via cloud. Very good drive recovery. Dual Ethernet ports. Dual power supplies. Runs quiet. Large LCD gives system information.
Below average write speed. Lacks some advanced business features
Western Digital's My Cloud EX4 is a good introductory NAS for small offices, offering very good drive and data recovery, easy remote access, and basic business NAS features. It is not, however, ideal for larger SMBs or those requiring very high-performan...
Full-featured suite of media center apps, Ease of setup and use, Dual power/Ethernet redundancy, Excellent price point in class
Business use limited to small offices with simple needs, Slightly slower write speed compared to other devices in class
The WD My Cloud EX4 definitely has the advantage of ease of use, simplicity, and low cost compared to other NAS solutions in its class. For home users, getting a quality storage solution set up on a network should only take a few minutes after unboxin...
USB 3.0, Easy remote access without port forwarding, 10 licenses for Smartware Pro backup software, Apple Time Machine backup
Underpowered for business use, Can't schedule attached backups, No logging
With all the features crammed into this product, it is disappointing to see such relatively low performance. Even more disappointing is that it's not the least expensive in its class, at least in the diskless version. At $350, it's slightly more expensive...
Large capacity, Internetconnected hard drive puts cloud storage in your home, not on some faroff server, with a deadsimple installation. iOS and Android apps let multiple mobile devices read, write, and stream simultaneously. Cuts out the need for a feeba
Management software requires Java applet to run. Shared folders are not protected by default

Abstract: Personal storage is a term you should become familiar with if you value your data. Obviously no one wants to lose critical information but where to store that data has always been a question. Thumb drives are portable but easily lost and cannot be expande...
The WD My Cloud EX4 offers data redundancy, Windows Server integration, and an excellent set of personal cloud features. It's also affordable and very easy to use
The server's write speed is disappointing. The mobile app supports a limited number of file formats, there's no search function, and it won't allow you to sort by content type
It's not the fastest NAS, nor does it include many advanced features, but the WD My Cloud EX4 still combines great ease of use into an affordable personal cloud system that's excellent for a connected home.
