The editors liked

  • Easy to setup cloud based platform
  • Secure 256-bit AES encryption on all connections
  • Easy to use mobile and desktop applications
  • Easy to manage UI
  • Relatively quiet
  • Clear and approachable web admin interface
  • Smart iOS apps
  • Brings a service similar to Dropbox to your own home but with greater capacity and at a lower price. Has all the functions of a home media server with the ability to go mobile. Flawlessly simple.
  • Excellent performance. 2TB of storage accessible via the cloud (or 3 or 4TB with larger versions). Expandable via USB 3.0 port. DLNA and iTunes media server support

The editors didn't like

  • Fast internet upload speed required for smooth audio and video playback remotely
  • No data redundancy out of the box
  • Slow write speeds
  • Java requirement for Mac remote access
  • Problems in setting up remote access
  • Security issues with US-based DDNS
  • Storage comes on a single hard drive
  • Limited data redundancy (because there's only one drive). Can't stream media via the cloud
