The editors liked

  • Excellent performance (for the budget drive category)
  • Allround performance
  • Good storage capacity / cost ratio
  • Low noise levels

The editors didn't like

  • No real gain in access times in spite of the 5900 rpm rotation speed
  • Performance a good bit down on the best hard drives (but this was expected)

  • Those who want to say “I have a multi-Terabyte hard disk” would be quite pleased with the Seagate Barracuda LP 2TB drive. A single HDD with such high densities is also useful for those building themselves a HTPC/NAS box. It sips less power than normal...

  • Abstract:  It is simple with the Seagate drive: the high access time cannot be compensated by the 64MB buffer and faster interface. The Barracuda XT is inferior to WD’s models through most of the tests but consumes less power.

  • Abstract:  After this review of two of the 2 TB drives currently available, the Western Digital comes out on top. Sure, with 5900 rpm, the Barracuda LP does give faster performances at times, but this is not systematic, especially with better NCQ management from Western Digital..

  • On paper, the Barracuda LP is a good match for the Caviar Green. Both drives sport four 500GB platters, 32MB caches, sub-7,200-RPM spindle speeds, three-year warranties, and price tags hovering around $200. The two drives even offer comparable performa...

  • Abstract:  The 2TB Barracuda LP also has faster read speeds than its main competitor, the 2TB Caviar Green, but can't meet its lofty noise, vibration, and energy usage levels. However, its lower price could be compelling. At $175 it comes close to 1TB drives in terms of cost per byte..

  • Among the fastest reads and writes of any highcapacity drive; low power consumption.
  • You can get two 1TB Barracuda 7200.12s for less than the price of one of theseand they'll be faster.

  • Abstract:  The new 7,200 rpm 2 TB drives from Western Digital, RE4 and Caviar Black, achieved the same performance level. They are a lot faster than the...

  • Abstract:  Some three months ago we welcomed early hard disk drives based on 500GB platters but now the situation is completely different. 1.5- and 2-terabyte models from Samsung, Seagate and Western Digital are all available for purchase today, even though all o...

  • Performance on par with a 7200RPM drive, Abundance of space, Energy cost savings, Runs cool and quiet
  • 10 more expensive than Western Digital's 2TB Green drive
  • The Seagate Barracuda LP 2TB SATA hard drive is an excellent choice for putting together a ‘green’ external storage solution. Putting this drive in an external enclosure, or better yet a NAS, will allow for some energy savings, especially if the drive...
