  • At the onset of this review, I pretty much had myself convinced that there was going to be little to gain from the increased bandwidth of the new SATA 3 bus with this drive. Time and time again we have seen bandwidth speeds increase, while other facto...

  • So the Barracuda XT has finally arrived. It has similar hardware to the 7200.12 (it doubles the platters and cache), but costs 50% more. That 50% gets you 6 Gbps SATA 3.0 connectivity, and an extra 2 years of warranty. And as you saw from our performan...

  • Abstract:  It is simple with the Seagate drive: the high access time cannot be compensated by the 64MB buffer and faster interface. The Barracuda XT is inferior to WD’s models through most of the tests but consumes less power.

  • 100MB/splus reads and writes; props for early adoption of 6GB/s SATA.
  • Performs better on 3Gb/s SATA; can't match WD Caviar Black; 6Gb/s SATA is unnecessary.

  • Huge capacity (2TB), 64MB cache, Very fast burst read, Five-year warranty
  • Expensive, SATA 6Gb/s interface yields negligible performance gains, Activating SATA 6Gb/s interface on current motherboards prevents dual-GPU operation
  • Seagate’s Barracuda XT is the first—and for now the only—mechanical hard drive on the market to support the new SATA 6Gb/s standard....

  • The 2TB Seagate, 6Gb/Sec drive is the fastest 7200rpm drive I've ever tested. This drive is a great combination of speed and storage in a single drive format. The 64MB cache is large enough to prevent any slow downs from you computer searching throu...

  • Abstract:  Compared to its 2TB brethren, the Barracuda XT showed well in our HD Tach tests, with an average read of 115MBps and an average write of 100.5MBps. And due to its 6Mbps interface, it also bested them in burst rate with a speed of 300.4MBps. We also note that when connected to..

  • It is clear that SATA III has a lot of potential but sadly we won’t being seeing that potential realized with mere 7200 RPM drives. The Seagate barracuda provides a valiant attempt at greatness but sadly is limited by the hardware in order to bypass...

  • Abstract:  Solid-state drives may be all the rage lately, but that hasn’t stopped traditional spinning-platter hard drive manufacturers from innovating. Seagate, for example, recently released its first 2TB desktop hard drive with a SATA 6Gbps interface, the Barracuda XT...

  • Very good 148 MBps read bandwidth with ATTO Benchmark, 3nd-generation SATA 6.0 GBps compliant controller, High 2-Terabyte storage capacity, Outstanding total-package value, 64MB Cache buffer improves burst transactions, Low-power standby conserves ener...
  • Unimpressive bandwidth for the World's first SATA 6G product
  • Not every product we test here at Benchmark Reviews receives a warm conclusion, complete with happy ending and high recommendations. Fortunately, the Seagate Barracuda XT has just enough perk still going for it to earn high marks from us. Price, perfor...
