The editors liked

  • The Dell XPS 15z is a 15.4-inch machine
  • Finished in magnesium and aluminium. The chassis measures under an inch in depth
  • And it's thinner than lots of rival laptops. It's tactile and robust
  • Although you'll find several different metals in place – rather than the MacBook Pro's uni-body design. That said
  • The XPS 15z really is a nice laptop to use and to look at. Surprisingly for a semi-portable
  • Attractive aluminium shell
  • Slim design
  • Excellent performance
  • Almost everything
  • Brilliant screen
  • Tons of power
  • Solid and attractive body.
  • Sharp
  • Vibrant full HD screen
  • Incredible performance
  • Excellent isolation-style keyboard
  • Slim and solid build
  • Long battery life
  • Great design
  • Great performance
  • Fantastic screen
  • Lots of storage
  • Extremely thin for a midsize notebook
  • Includes a powerful CPU and midrange GPU
  • 1080p display
  • Backlit keyboard
  • All-metal
  • Semi-unibody chassis
  • Streamlined
  • Less than 1in thick
  • Excellent build quality and great feel
  • Optional 1080p screen
  • Powerful
  • Well-rounded specification

The editors didn't like

  • The fact the XPS 15z uses different types of metals creates a slightly unbalanced feel to the design
  • Although there's no disputing the quality. We also found the 15z was slightly noisy in use
  • Although never distractingly so.
  • Build quality disappointing in places
  • Unimpressive battery life
  • Unattractive keyboard
  • What's to hate?
  • Slightly shallow keyboard if we must
  • No Blu-ray
  • Short power lead
  • Screen doesn't tilt back far
  • Fairly expensive
  • Keyboard layout
  • Lack of Blu-ray drive
  • The 15in. MacBook Pro is slightly thinner
  • We'd expect longer battery life and a better GPU in our highend configuration
  • No Blu-ray drive
  • Noisy under load
  • Not user upgradeable
  • Non-replaceable battery

  • Abstract:  The advantages of going to a fully metal jacket for a notebook aren't as huge as you would imagine. Sure, it scratches a little less, and if you do some nifty designwork on the inside you might be able to use it as a passive heatsink. The cons are the...

  • Thinner than usual, Full HD screen, Backlit keyboard, Decent performance
  • Still heavy, Keyboard doesn't have the best response
  • For what you get for the price, the XPS 15z is a compelling mainstream laptop.

  • The new Dell XPS15z is extremely thin for a midsize laptop, and includes a powerful CPU and midrange GPU, along with a 1080p display and backlit keyboard
  • It's still not thinner than the 15-inch MacBook Pro, and in our high-end $1,500 configuration, we'd expect longer battery life and a better GPU
  • For what you get for the price, the XPS 15z is a compelling mainstream laptop....

  • Full HD screen, Good build quality, Performance
  • Poor keyboard, Tacky design, USB ports only on one side
  • If it had a better design and a more comfortable keyboard, the Dell XPS 15z would be close to awesome. As it stands, it's just good. We like its configuration and performance, as well as its Full HD screen and its strong build quality. The XPS 15z is suit...

  • Abstract:  Dell's XPS 15Z slimline laptop is an impressive 25mm thickness; not quite Macbook Air thin, but it’s easily the most compact of the multimedia laptops we tested in our mid-2011 roundup. The 15Z boasts the highest clock speed of the models tested, but th...

  • Abstract:  Today, we revisit the Dell XPS 15z in a slightly different configuration. The XPS 15z carries with it the same DNA as the XPS 15, but the excess fat has been trimmed down a bit to give the notebook a very sleek and streamlined look. This is the premi...

  • The Dell XPS 15z is priced at Rs. 81,800 and comes pre-loaded with Windows 7 Home Premium. If you’re only going by the specs, the Dell Vostro is a cheaper purchase, but as with XPS laptops, you’re paying premium bucks for the looks, build and the over...
