  • Apple has stuck with the same design as last year’s iPad mini
  • Which in itself is a departure from the tapered look of previous iPads – and it’s still as impressive as when it was first revealed. It’s a slimline and lightweight slate that feels solid in the hand thanks to the premium build quality
  • And it weighs hardly anything. It's the more portable flavour of iPad

The editors didn't like

  • Higher price
  • Iterative evolution
  • Expensive
  • Android and Amazon tablets and even Windows laptops are available for less. Base model includes only 16GB of nonexpandable storage. It's missing the Touch ID fingerprint sensor and splitscreen feature found on newer iPads
  • Tablets are not exactly known for their brilliant sound quality
  • And the new iPad mini is no exception either. The stereo speakers included on the mini will certainly make do for occasional listening
  • But they’re not as loud as the pair found on the iPad Air
  • And they’re also positioned awkwardly. When using the mini
  • It’s easy to cover up the speakers when held on its side such as when you’re pl
  • Expensive for a small tablet
  • Lacks Touch ID
  • No expandable memory
  • Want a bigger screen for films
  • Can be a bit buggy
  • Price
  • No Touch ID
  • Nonexpandable memory
  • Speaker location
  • Proprietary Lightning port
  • Not 802.11ac
  • No microSD
  • Very expensive compared to 7/8in tablets
  • No expandable storage
  • Marginally inferior colours compared to Air's screen
  • Slightly heavier & more expensive than original iPad mini
  • IPad mini 3 offers Touch ID (but not much else)
  • More expensive than the competition
  • Lack of Touch ID
  • A more expensive choice in the current tablet market
  • A touch wide for easy one
  • Handed use
  • Camera quality has not improved
  • A hair thicker and heavier than iPad Mini
  • $400 price tag is steep for a compact tablet
  • No fingerprint sensor
  • Some users complain about iOS 7's new look

  • Abstract:  What a difference a year makes. Last year, the then-new iPad Mini was the unquestioned top pick for a media tablet , thanks to its friendly iTunes software for managing your personal media and its superior hardware, which easily outperformed the corner-cu...

  • This is the iPad mini we were hoping for last year, and the iPad mini I didn't expect until next year, based on last year's specs. It's a pleasant surprise to see that Apple decided to keep what worked about last years iPad mini, while upgrading just abou...

  • Very portable, with a well built, well designed body. Retina display is very crisp, powered by fast, significantly upgraded hardware. iOS has by far the best selection of tablet apps going around.
  • Pricey, especially for storage upgrades and the cellular model. Display color gamut is lacking.

  • Abstract:  Come on folks, this is something we knew that was bound to happen! Apple and Google have been waging war against one another for a long time now, and considering that this year meant that we would see refreshes to several popular tablets, which we did,...

  • Are the new iPads worth the cost? Yes. In concert with Apple's phenomenal App Store and iTunes digital ecosystem (including the brilliant iTunes U), the iPad lineup produces a user experience that is unmatched. My only real complaint is the lack of th...

  • This considering the iPad mini with Retina display are likely doing so for a number of reasons, two of which include price and portability. In both areas, the Mini has its advantages over the iPad Air while maintaining largely the same key features, no...

  • Abstract:  There's no question that you'll get a thrill the first time you pick up the iPad Air. It's so much more holdable, even in just one hand, than the previous full-size iPads. The new iPad has shed a quarter of the old weight, has the nicer-feeling case desig...

  • Abstract:  And then the big story: Same screen.Oh, it's smaller, all right: 7.9 inches diagonal instead of the iPad Air's 9.7. But it's exactly the same number of pixels, smaller and packed in closer together. Same image, slightly smaller and crisper. As you'd guess...

  • It's easy to stick the iPad mini in the same category as the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HDX. They're certainly close, but Apple has created its own beast entirely, one that has a superior design and unmatched app experience. With a starting price of $400, it...
