The editors didn't like

  • Lacks a rear-facing camera
  • No 3G option - Wi-Fi only
  • Design
  • I found this device to be a pleasure to hold. Nexus 7 is 10.45mm thick and 198.5 x 120 overall
  • So it's very slender and compact. I like the grippy (non-slip) back
  • Which causes the tablet to
  • No microSD card slot
  • No SIM card support (WiFi only)
  • Google Chrome seems to be lacking
  • Not as good as the iPad you own
  • Or the iPhone
  • Or we'd guess the upcoming Apple 7inch tablet
  • But if you own none of the above it's a good option
  • Nonexpandable memory
  • No HDMI output
  • No dedicated multimedia player
  • Some will be put out by the lack of a rearfacing camera
  • Google Maps Navigation's offline function still has room for improvement
  • The Nexus 7 will be able to take advantage of cloud storage solutions such as Google Drive
  • But the lack of microSD card storage will irk some. Thankfully those opting for the 16GB version will have more than enough memory before resorting to cloud-based storage. Like the iPad there is a lack of Flash
  • Meaning some web pages will not show up as they are meant to
  • And some apps. However such issue
  • No rear camera
  • No 3G
  • No SD card slot to expand memory
  • Weak IPS display contrast
  • Limited storage options
  • Too few Android tablet apps
  • Some content hard to read
  • No memory expansion options
  • Lacks physical connections
  • UK users miss out on some of the Google Play features
  • No expandable memory
  • No 3G connectivity
  • No expandable storage
  • Wi-Fi only
  • Missing some Google Play stuff
  • Limited storage space
  • Missing microSD slot and rearfacing snapper
  • Some gaps in app offering
  • Especially tablet-specific apps
  • Some features are work in progress
  • No rear facing camera
  • No SD card slot
  • None
  • No phone network support
  • Still no Google Music in UK
  • Non-expandable memory
  • Native video support limited
  • No video output
  • Phablet user interface
  • Limited internal storage

  • I thoroughly enjoyed using the Google Nexus 7. This is something that I couldn't say about all the Android tablets I've previously used. With the exception of the Kindle Fire, which was hampered by poor software decisions on Amazon's part, my primary co...

  • The Kindle Fire was great because it married decent software with decent hardware, at a reasonable price. Previous attempts at ~7-inch tablets made sacrifices in one or more of those areas. Amazon knew what it was doing and the Kindle Fire apparently sold...

  • Beautiful build, Quadcore processor performs well, Android 4.1 is an efficient upgrade with great new features
  • umption tablet in an affordable package.
  • Put simply, Google nailed it with the Nexus 7 tablet. It took aim at the Kindle Fire and it hit its mark, creating a tablet that's not only equally affordable at $200 (or $250, $50 more than the Fire if you want the 16GB version), but also more powerful ...

  • It's inexpensive, very speedy thanks to its Nvidia 1.3GHz Tegra 3 quad-core processor, has decent battery life, and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is the most advanced version of Android yet
  • No rear-facing camera, lack of microSD slot

  • Abstract:  Since its inception, the iPad has long remained at the top of the tablet universe without seeing much threat from the competition. Of course, we can name quite a few devices that were poised to challenge its supremacy, but there has yet to be a legiti...

  • Abstract:  Ever since the original HTC-built G1 launched in late 2008, the market for devices built with close oversight from Google has been strong. There are plenty of high-quality Google tablets and smartphones to choose from, but the Nexus line promises top-shelf hardware coupled with the latest version of Android...

  • Extremely affordable $200 price, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, Great battery life, Uniform responsive performance
  • No storage expansion, Lacks a rear camera, Not available in 4G/3G flavor
  • It takes the correct set of ingredients to be a best-seller, but it requires winning the hearts and minds of consumers all around in order to be remembered long after it’s gone. Honestly people, the tablet industry is seeing a revival thanks partly to...

  • Abstract:  The last 7 inch Android tablet that I purchased was the HTC Flyer, after owning the original Samsung Galaxy Tab, and I have been using it for over a year. I wasn't going to pick up a new Nexus 7, but at the low price point I couldn't resist and my pre-ord...
