The editors didn't like
Some clunky software installed. Limited thirdparty software
Interface controls are awful
Meagre app ecosystem
Slow app load speed
Camera poor compared to competitors
Not lap-friendly
Slow loading times
Lack of apps
The Microsoft Surface looks gorgeous in press images. Up close
It’s another matter
For one
It’s not nearly as thin as it looks. Much more of an issue is the aspect ratio
With an 10.6-inch screen (that’s not nearly as sharp as a new iPad or the Google Nexus 10’s display) it’s extremely wide
And added to the bulk
This makes it all but impossible to use in portrait mode. That’s a real shame
A
Poor selection of apps
Not the most intuitive experience
Can be slow to respond
Very few apps to start with
Dull design
Not cheap
Sluggish browsing
Desktop mode is confusing
App ecosystem is lacking
Limited 1
366x768 display resolution
Touch Cover is a £100 optional extra
Will soon be up against the Surface Pro
No GPS or 3G connectivity
Has firstgeneration bugs
Rather weighty and chunky
Odd Windows quirks
Small choice of apps.
Chunky
Hefty build
Windows 8 quirks and lack of apps
Split personality OS
No Retina display
Standard display
Heavier than iPad 4
Sluggish graphical performance
Screen definition / Very new OS (lack of content)
Modern UI control gestures aren't always that intuitive
Whether the Surface just becomes a proof of concept type piece of hardware and we were all just beta testers will remain to be seen. Another concern about the Surface arises when you look at the upcoming hardware for Win RT from the likes of Samsung, Acer...

We have to say the Surface RT is something of a failure in our view. The problem is not so much in its inability to achieve what Microsoft set out to, but more the way in which it does it.It has refinement in spades, but the areas where this is most import...
Abstract: The Microsoft Surface RT (review here) is Microsoft's own-brand Windows 8 tablet running on an Arm processor. It's well constructed, performs well and is packed with utility. Here's our MS Surface RT video review. Surface RT review: build quality The...

The Surface with Windows RT has undoubted limitation for a business – it won't be replacing your laptop fleet just yet as there are niggles when it comes to using it on the move – but it's well worth investing in one or two even now so you can see the...
Abstract: A unique, superbly designed tablet that’s ideal for mobile professionals, but it comes with too many compromises to make it a must-haveRating: 4Average: 4 (1 vote) When Microsoft dropped the bombshell that it was launching its own tablet, the company n...

Solid build quality, Windows RT is great on tablets, this is the closest a tablet comes to a laptop experience, great battery life, screen is brilliant, largely crash-free
Keyboards are expensive, kickstand angle isn't perfect or adjustable, camera is unforgivably bad, Microsoft app store still lacking
Think of the Surface as something of a leap of faith. It's a great device now, and there's more than enough here to make it worth buying, although we do think it's expensive once you factor in a keyboard, and we urge you to get it with the keyboard, th...
Lightweight, sturdy construction, built-in Office 2013 apps, all-day battery life
No support for existing Windows apps, no 3G broadband, low-res cameras
Microsoft's ARM-based Surface device delivers Windows 8 as a more appliance-like experience, closer to that of consumer media tablets. The combination of Exchange-compatible email and Office 2013 apps built-in make it an attractive option for a mobile ...
Abstract: We bought Microsoft's Surface the day it came out, and we're ready with first impressions and benchmarks. Does the company enable a truly productivity-oriented experience to complement content consumption, or will we have to wait for the Surface Pro? U...
