On the flip side
The PS3 is a little lacking when it comes to top games
Especially compared to the far cheaper Xbox 360. Whilst there are plenty of solid titles knocking around
Sony’s console still doesn’t have an exclusive “killer ap...

Despite all the pre-launch hype, Sony’s PS3 comes up short due to a lackluster lineup of software that has yet to demonstrate what the system is truly capable of. (Those annoying software glitches don’t help either.) From a pure gaming perspec...
Abstract: Coming off the success of the PlayStation 2, Sony has clearly stumbled out of the starting blocks with its latest system. The PlayStation 3 is packed to the brim with powerful technology, impressive pedigree, and a killer Blu-ray player. However, what ...
Abstract: Sony’s gaming console still the Blu-ray player to beat. [Update: The best just keeps getting better. Sony has announced at long last that a firmware update available April 15th will allow the mighty PS3 to decode lossless DTS-HD Master Audio and DTS...
Abstract: Last year, I put the Sony Playstation 3 through our DVD Player Benchmark™ testing and it didn’t fare very well. In fact, it turned out to be one of the worst players I had tested to date. Later in the year the PS3 got a firmware update (v1.8) that sup...
Abstract: I have a confession to make: I own a PlayStation 3. In fact, since Andy already outed me in his recent gaming round-up, I'll spill the beans. I traded my Xbox 360 for a PlayStation 3 on UK launch day. You see, I like to think of myself as a man of faith a...

Swanky design with quiet operation; all games in high-definition; PSP-like easy-to-use interface; plays Profile 2.0 high-definition Blu-ray movies in addition to upscaling standard DVDs; built-in Wi-Fi and flash media reader; 80GB hard drive; online pl...
A USB port on the back wouldve been nice; no infrared port means non-Bluetooth universal remotes arent compatible; glossy black finish is a fingerprint magnet; online gaming, media, and commerce options not nearly as developed as Xbox Live.
A handful of notable upgrades from the entry-level model, the 80GB PS3 is superb Blu-ray player and high-definition game console.

While Sony has cut a few corners to get its entry-level PlayStation 3 below $400, its still a great game console and Blu-ray player for the money--so long as you can live without backward compatibility for PS2 games.
Power hungry, HDMI set up is frustrating, no DualShock feature in controller
Viewed solely as a games console, the PS3 looks poor value for money despite the price NOT ALLOWEDping significantly since its launch. But when its network capabilities are considered, along with the 60GB hard disk (incidentally an 80GB version is rumo...
