The editors liked

  • Gimmick free shooting
  • Great multiplayer design
  • Epic HD return to old school CoD
  • Surprisingly emotional storyline that's filled with intriguing characters and blockbuster action
  • Gameplay is blisteringly tight and intense firefights leave you constantly on the edge of your seat
  • Boots-on-the-groun
  • Return to traditional setting
  • Audio effects especially in Campaign
  • War Mode in MP

The editors didn't like

  • Single player struggles at the start
  • War mode needs more maps
  • Story could have been even more gripping if the game took bigger risks in moving away from extreme ‘Hollywood' action in favour of more realistic vision of war
  • Server Issues
  • Nothing really inventive
  • Same old CoD

  • Slightly above average or simply inoffensive. Fans of the genre should enjoy it a bit, but a fair few will be left unfulfilled. How we score: The destructoid reviews guide...

  • Abstract:  It's here, what we've all been waiting for. A return to a twentieth century setting for first-person-shooter stalwart Call of Duty. Rumbling, squeaking tanks, the French countryside, D-Day, and plenty of Nazi killing—although the violence is surprisingly...

  • Cinematic gameplay, More realistic gameplay, Squad interaction, Scary zombies, WAR mode, Hey! It's that guy from Transformers
  • Linear campaign, Uninteresting mementos, Best parts of campaign were oneoff missions, No bond with squad mates, Broken Headquarters hub
  • A high-tech look on low-tech warfare

  • Straightforward gunplay without jetpacks and laser wolves, One of the best Zombies campaigns yet, War mode is a welcome change to the objective formula, Phenomenal sound design
  • Lack of regenerating health in campaign doesn't feel like a drastic change, as health kits are plentiful, Campaign feels weaker than previous years without a clear defined antagonist (other than the simple 'Nazis are bad'), Headquarters mode still doesn't
  • Call of Duty WWII doesn't have 'quite enough' campaign moments to really leave you feeling like a war hero when it's finished, just like there's 'not quite enough' multiplayer content with the map count at a series low. What you do get in the box though i...

  • Abstract:  With every new year that passes, we see a new Call of Duty come and go. So what's so special about Call of Duty: WW2 ? It's the first time in nine years that the franchise isn't taking place in a modern or futuristic setting. If you're wondering which CoD...

  • The Call Of Duty franchise is in a difficult place. I enjoyed the game but many of my friends (who still play) have dropped out for the same reason many have stopped playing. The COD series is a bit formulaic and now more of the same. As most of the lates...

  • I think Call of Duty: WWII is a better game than I would have thought possible. World War II is such a tired subject in the world of video games that I didn't think it would be possible for a developer to revisit that well once again, but Sledgehammer d...

  • Abstract:  Call of Duty has recently gotten lost in a future of jetpack boosting, robots, and wacky laser guns, leaving the franchise feeling almost unrecognizable. Sledgehammer Games' latest entry in the long-running war shooter series, Call of Duty: WWII, sends t...

  • Abstract:  When it rains it pours, and in 2017, it's cloudy with a chance of Nazi scum. Not long after the alternate-history camp and aggression of Wolfenstein II, I find myself back with boots on the ground in the real history of World War II. After several years...
