The editors liked

  • Classic arcade shooting at its best

  • Addictive
  • Flowing gameplay
  • Translates perfectly to DS controls
  • Leaderboard functionality
  • Wii and DS communication
  • A fun 2-D blaster with a unique control system
  • Interesting levels
  • And a levelling-up element that will keep you coming back again and again
  • Brand new single-player ‘Galaxies’ mode
  • Addictive as gaming can ever be
  • New control method fantastic
  • A galaxy of new maps to master
  • Experimenting with Drones
  • High replay value

The editors didn't like

  • Using the gamepad is better than the Wiimote
  • Some of the more modern graphic effects can overpower the rest of the game
  • Making it frustrating at times. And although it is fun to play in short bursts
  • It's unlikely you'll want to play it hour after hour.
  • Doesn’t look quite as sharp as the 360 version
  • Uploading high scores a real hassle
  • Dying with unused bombs
  • Nightmares involving 100 giant cubes
  • Slightly repetitive soundtrack

  • Abstract:  Geometry Wars Galaxies may be the debut title to a fair amount of gamers, but to those of us who accidentally found the original arcade game snuck away in the corner of Project Gotham Racing 2's garage, it's all we could ever ask for. The real question...

  • Abstract:  Its been two years since the Xbox 360 launched, and one of its most addictive downloadable games was this little title called Geometry Wars from Bizarre Creations, developers of the Project Gotham Racing series. This little arcade style shooter had t...

  • Abstract:  A game with Galaxy in the name featuring gravity effects? This sounds familiar. Geometry Wars: Galaxies is a fleshed out version of the Xbox Live Arcade space shooter title, Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved. It was at one time the most-downloaded game fro...

  • Abstract:  However as it wasn’t that accessible, it wasn’t until the Xbox Live arcade release on the 360 that retro-fans went mad and people became hooked to this old school shooter. Galaxies now brings the fun-filled fast paced-shooter to Nintendo fans...

  • Abstract:  In November of 2005, the Xbox 360 launched with a number of retail-based games. While the launch games were (arguably) solid, not all will be remembered as classics. But Bizarre Creation's Xbox Live Arcade title, Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved will not ...

  • Addictive, easy gameplay; DS connection bonuses.
  • Requires a classic controller or two; multiplayer is too chaotic; graphics too bright, not crisp enough; slowdown.
  • Too much dessert ruins dinner, and too much Geometry Wars ruins its perfect approachability. The original game appealed in the same way that popping quarters into a classic arcade game might, gradually stretching out your skill until the return on that...

  • Revamped control scheme provides surprisingly solid accuracy, Gameplay is still intense and engaging, Galaxy mode is deep and addictive, Visuals are sharp and colorful, Multiplayer is good fun.
  • No online multiplayer options, No GameCube controller support .
  • Galaxies adds a great deal of depth to an already intense shooter. ...

  • Abstract:  Theres been a worrying trend gamers have had to face since the start of Wii Sports fever. Whether they intend to or not, Nintendo sets standards in everything it does, and Wiis simplistic game design can often give publishers the wrong idea on how to...
