The editors liked

  • Redesigned guitar is a revelation
  • GHTV should extend lifespan
  • Revamped gameplay feels much more realistic
  • Tonnes of evolving content
  • Great to dip in and out of
  • Rewards and incentives to keep coming back
  • Convincing fullmotion video backdrops
  • Innovative 'TV' streaming mode
  • Good (not great) track selection

The editors didn't like

  • Noisy strum bar
  • Hit ‘n' miss track list
  • Clicky and creaky build quality
  • Some song choices are questionable
  • Campaign section is very short
  • Not sure how successful “live” sections are in practice
  • Expensive
  • Some mechanics need to mature
  • A bit 'cute'

  • Abstract:  We've all had that dream at one point in time: start a band and be a rock star. Unfortunately, most of us will never get to live that dream, but the next generation of the “Guitar Hero” franchise gets close to delivering that experience. It's been quite a...

  • Improved button configuration, more gameplay variety, lots of song choices
  • Can't skip pre concert videos, song packs can't be permanently unlocked
  • Guitar Hero Live is an interesting reinvention of the game and will appeal to anyone who wants to feel like they're on a concert tour or someone who just wants to play a favourite song when they feel like it...

  • Abstract:  It's been a long time between drinks for the Guitar Hero franchise. Nearly five years in fact, and it's clear that Activision have used this time to nut out how they could reincarnate and re-energise what was long regarded as the music/rhythm game of choi...

  • The new guitar refreshes the whole experience, even for me, a franchise veteran. The Live component, though short, provided a fantastic experience – one that I really enjoyed. GHTV is a phenomenal feature, or at least, it could be with some fine tuning. T...

  • Great controller, GHTV is seriously addictive, Eclectic song library
  • Superficial career mode, Local multiplayer lacks spark, Can't buy songs
  • In many ways my experience with Guitar Hero Live can be summed up by the chorus from Faith No More's Epic: “You want it all but you can't have it.” No matter how much currency, real or virtual, you pump in, you'll never actually own any of its growing lib...
