The editors didn't like
No Dolby Atmos
Will need to add more speakers to really make it shine
The lack of a subwoofer means the Beam lacks deep bass compared to sub-equipped competitors. You lose some connectivity options on TVs that lack ARC. Google Assistant and Apple AirPlay 2 haven't been added yet
Expensive for a small soundbar
Some music services not supported
No Chromecast option for Android
Less powerful than the Playbar
Has some issues with clarity
Introduces audio delay
No Atmos or DTS
X
Sonos app not home theater friendly
Don't have HDMI ARC? Then setup gets tricky
Not as punchy as Playbar
Only one ethernet port
Not all Alexa skills work
Can be pushed to harshness
More HDMI inputs would be nice
Sonos doesn't do Dolby Atmos
Alexa still has numerous ‘quirks'
You will spin rapidly down the expensiveness rabbit hole if you want to move up to the full 5.1/multi-room Sonos works
Relatively expensive
No roomshaking bass
Takes up a port on your TV
No HDMI passthrough
No support for Dolby Atmos
Individual speakers can be trumped for sound
No hi-res support
Still no HDMI pass-through
No Dolby Atmos support
Bass is slightly lacking
Limited AV options
A bit pricey
You need wi-fi to set-up and use the soundbar
It won't mute music if a call comes through to your smartphone while you're playing music
It comes with just one HDMI port and an adapter if you have an optical connector on your TV - we'd prefer it to have

Smaller form factor, Great sound, Alexa plus Google Assistant and AirPlay 2 coming
More bass would've been nice, No Dolby Atmos support, Still pricey

Abstract: Many of the existing $500 smart speaker releases of late seem to be solutions in search of problems. Apple's HomePod is a circular single speaker that claims to be able to generate stereo sound. The Google Home Max is a heavy and oversized boombox for the...

Abstract: vizio_elevate_soundbar-100826000-orig.jpgIf you've looked at buying a new TV sometime in the last five years, there's a good chance that the sales rep tried to upsell you into pairing it with a brand new soundbar. Home Hi-Fi isn't what it used to be. Here...
Passable for music, good with stereo TV and outstanding with a full movie soundtrack, the Beam should further the Sonos inroads into TV audio with such a compact, intelligent and expandable solution. You can get better sound, especially for music, but not...

Great for what it is - a compact sounbd bar and part of the Sonos family
Don't buy it if you expect great things from Alexa
Great price-point, Easy setup, Comprehensive compatibility
Not as big impact as the Playbar or Playbase, No Google Assistant (yet)
If you've been reticent or reluctant to buy a soundbar until now, the Sonos Beam is a product that does everything it can to push you over that line...
Fantastic sound, Very small, Touch controls up top, Support for voice assistants, AirPlay 2 support on-board, HDMI ARC means modern TVs can control the Sonos by remote, Excellent price
Needs more support for smart assistants
Even without Google's smart assistant, the Sonos Beam gets so much of the smart speaker and the soundbar formula right, finding that middle ground really well.Yes, it's an excellent soundbar with the hardware that feels like it can do no wrong, and like a...
