The editors liked

  • Its bombastic styling might not be to all tastes
  • But unlike many classic boomboxes from back in the day
  • The iMT800 is not all show and has a generosity of sound you don't normally get with iPod docks. Having room for a 5.25in subwoofer certainly hel...
  • A big
  • Full sound
  • IPhone compatible
  • Lots of bass
  • Powerful output
  • Portable
  • Welldesigned for use on the move
  • Great overall design
  • A full
  • Beefy sound (rare on iPod docks!)

The editors didn't like

  • Some things about the 80s belong there
  • And the iMT800's size and near-7kg weight will be a real turn-off for some. With an RRP of £270
  • Meanwhile
  • There's nothing old-fashioned about the price tag
  • And for that kind of money we'd expect...
  • No AM radio
  • Heavy
  • No internal battery
  • Requires LR20 (Dsize) batteries
  • No dedicated buttons for controlling the music source
  • IPhone and iPod playback is easily interrupted
  • No volume-equalisation feature

  • Powerful output, Portable, welldesigned for use on the move, Great overall design, A full, beefy sound (rare on iPod docks!)
  • Heavy, No internal battery, requires LR20 (Dsize) batteries
  • The MIX certainly won't go unnoticed in your living room. However, for a barbecue, on the beach or in the garden, this boombox will keep you and your friends dancing though the night ... so long as you remember to stock up on batteries!...

  • Old-school boom-box appearance; powerful bass
  • No dedicated buttons for controlling the music source; iPhone and iPod playback is easily interrupted; no volume-equalisation feature
  • The Altec Lansing Mix offers the appearance and audio of a great party boom box, but start-stop music playback and volume discrepancies between sound inputs mean that it's unlikely to raise the roof more than a few inches ...

  • Of all the possible words you could use to describe the iMT800 Boombox, ordinary isn't likely to be one of them. Its in-your-face design means you'll probably love it or hate it, but it does have plenty going on beyond that in case you haven't...

  • Abstract:  It often doesn’t take much alteration to keep a great product on top as time goes on, and Altec Lansing has proven that by revving its iMT800 “MIX” boombox for iPhone and iPod of a year and a half ago into the new iMT810 version which is reviewed her...
