It's really thin
Crisp picture
Good colours
Pictures are top class due to their excellent contrasts
Warm colours and deep black levels. The set also produces wonderfully full-bodied sound from its massive speakers
4K picture quality is insanely good
The set's design is imperious
And the sound quality is the best we've heard from a TV.

The editors didn't like
Patchy
Bleeding backlight
Needs better contrast
The smart TV system lacks apps for 4oD and ITV Player
And although the speakers sound great
They make the TV very chunky. Its 3D performance is also a letdown as it suffers from some crosstalk
Black levels could be better
And Sony's smart TV interface lacks a little sophistication
Speaker design might not suit all
New onscreen Social View Twitter app is somewhat antisocial
3D isn't perfect - but who wants that anyway
Limited catch-up TV services
Distracting Twitter app
It's huge
It costs £25k
There's a rather small audio sweetspot
We did mention it costs £25k
Right?
Almost no 4K content to watch
No 4K source material yet
So you can't make full use of the Ultra HD resolution
Glossy screen sensitive to glare
Speakers are set into the TV
Nonremovable
Response time below average
Wide footprint
Some motion blur
Average remote
SD upscaling struggles
Some dirty screen effect
Too small for most to appreciate resolution improvement

Supremely accurate colours, Very good black levels, Impressive dynamic range, Mostly clean scaling of 720p and above, Tons of VoD services, Top Mobile App
Some dirty screen effect, Too small for most to appreciate resolution improvement, 3D is half res, Menus are tiresome
The outward appearance of the Sony KD-55X9005 will divide opinion. Some will applaud the sight of the full range speakers at either side of the screen whilst others will bemoan the implementation for being outdated and elephant-eared. We sit somewhere in...

This article contains a fair amount of technical discussion, so let us summarise in an easy-to-understand manner. The Bravia KD-55X9005A is a good effort from Sony to bring an affordable, high-quality 4K UHDTV to the masses. Available to buy for around £3...
You need to look at Sony's X9 in a certain way to really appreciate how good it is. This is a TV right at the cutting edge of what you can get at home right now, but with that comes its own problems. Not that many people have 4K sets, so there simply isn't...
Abstract: With four times HD's definition, 4K is simply extraordinary – so sharp it takes your breath away. This is not the TV for anyone hoping to watch less television; you will watch far more. In my opinion, 4K is a much more significant development than 3D ever...
Pin, sharp 4K pictures, Great Blu, ray upscaling, Clearer passive 3D, Excellent built, in audio
Wide footprint, Some motion blur, Average remote, SD upscaling struggles
With only slightly less wow factor than its big sibling, the far pricier KD-65X9005A, the KD-55X9005A is currently the best value Ultra HD telly around. But it's not just the pin-sharp performance with (as yet non-existent) 4K sources that blew us away. ...
Stunning UHD and upscaled picture quality, Class-leading audio, Fair price for what's on offer
Needs care to get good contrast, Very little native 4K content at time of writing, Doesn't carry true HDMI 2.0 inputs
While we'd urge you to go for the Sony 55X9005A's larger 65-inch sibling if you can afford to, in order to get more impact from the new 4K resolution, we still maintain that 55-inch is big enough to exhibit 4K's pictorial advantages. And with its excellen...

Almost no 4K content to watch
We want to love the KD-55X9005A. In fact, we do love the KD-55X9005A – it looks gorgeous, it sounds superb, and it's capable of absolutely blowing your socks off with its picture quality. But we probably wouldn't buy one unless we'd just come into a who...

This 65-inch Sony is a jaw dropping panel with outstanding AV credentials. While it'll take some time before native 4K video becomes commonplace, be it via a new iteration of Blu-ray disc, online streaming or download, or satellite and cable, this set d...

The Sony KD-55X9005 is the first relatively affordable UHD television. The new 55-inch 55X9005 costs £3,999. That's still a lot of money, you can buy two Full HD TVs of the same size for the same money. The picture quality of the 55X9005 is impressive....
Resolution four times higher than Full HD, Contrast over 5,000:1, Perfect colours, Excellent 3D with virtually no crosstalk, Good motion interpolation, Two remotes, one of which is compact and NFCcompatible, Sound quality unlike anything we've ever heard
No 4K source material yet, so you can't make full use of the Ultra HD resolution, Glossy screen sensitive to glare, Speakers are set into the TV, nonremovable, Response time below average
The Sony Bravia KD-55X9005A is hands-down the best TV we've ever reviewed, with or without the Ultra HD resolution! It combines sky-high contrast with perfectly faithful colours, virtually impeccable 3D rendering and amazing sound quality. Now all you hav...
