The editors liked

  • The huge 1920 x 1080 screen produces fantastic black level response and punchy
  • Deep contrast. Performance is exceptional in 2D mode
  • And there’s only a slight hit to picture brightness and contrast when you switch to 3D. In fact
  • 3D pictures are more watchable (if a little less bright) here than on large LCD and LED 3D TVs
  • Mainly thanks to low levels of crosstalk ghosting – the line-doubling ef

The editors didn't like

  • The sheer size of this telly means that any picture issues are easy to spot
  • There is slightly more 3D crosstalk than on Panasonic’s 50-inch plasmas
  • And despite some classy upscaling tech inside standard definition content can lack detail. These are really just symptoms of a large screen though – not really Panasonic’s fault.
  • Uncomfortable 3D glasses
  • No DivX HD
  • Poor value remote control
  • IFC sideeffects
  • Some judder issues
  • Activating 3D is a chore
  • Awkward 3D eyewear
  • Inconsistent and unimaginative menus
  • Ordinary sound
  • Ads in the TV guide
  • 3D glasses aren't especially comfortable
  • Sound's not great
  • Sony's new HX903 is even better
  • Minuses
  • Glossy screen leads to reflections
  • Glasses can get uncomfortable
  • No rubber tips
  • Mediocre remote with no backlighting
  • Slightly high energy consumtion
  • 302 W
  • Ambient light detector can't be turned off in THX mode
  • 3D glasses uncomfortable
  • Average audio
  • Clunky user interface
  • Ad-hobbled Freeview HD EPG
  • Intelligent Frame Creation artefacts
  • Doesn't side-step the usual 3D issues
  • Weak 3D glasses design
  • No 2D-to-3D conversion
  • 3D glasses are atrocious
  • Expensive

  • Amazing picture quality; good 3D performance; appealing styling; great features
  • 3D glasses are atrocious; expensive
  • The Viera TX-P50VT20B is Panasonic's best plasma TV yet. The detail in pictures is phenomenal, its black levels are superb, and just about everything looks fabulous on it. Its 3D performance is good too, making this TV a great choice if you want to wa...

  • It's a little unusual that the first 3DTV we've had the chance to review here at HDTVTest is a Plasma. Panasonic (a heavy investor in both Plasma and 3D technologies) have been vocal in explaining the advantages of viewing 3D content on this display type...

  • Super-smooth, artifact free 3D, DNLA networking, Conventional 2D performance with both HD and SD, Freeview HD and Freesat tuners
  • Awkward 3D eyewear, Inconsistent and unimaginative menus, Ordinary sound, Ads in the TV guide
  • Technically brilliant with both 3D sources and high-def 2D, this is probably Panasonic's best-ever plasma TV. If you want to see just how good this next-gen 3D malarkey really is then this screen sets the standard

  • The Panasonic Viera TX-P50VT20 is Panasonic's first 3D TV, and it's a belter.Samsung may have (just) beaten Panasonic in the race to put 3D TVs on the high-street, with its range of LCD and LED-backlit 3D screens, but the Japanese giant's arrival is pe...

  • Amazing black levels, Great color accuracy, Very good 3D performance, Reliable antireflective screen,
  • Power hog, No built in WiFi (but wireless capabilities are present), Some artifacts showing in 1080p/24 mode
  • Although Panasonic Viera TC-P50VT25 is mainly advertised as a 3D plasma TV, its performance in the 2D area is what truly recommends it. With ink like blacks, great accurate colors right out of the box, and video processing that can handle all kinds of ...

  • Excellent 2D performance - best black levels of any 2010 model TV we've tested, Very good 3D performance with minimal cross-talk, Enough picture tweaks to satisfy die-hard hobbyists and professional calibrators, Player/glasses bundles bring down the price
  • Included pair of 3D glasses is heavy and can be uncomfortable
  • The TC-P50VT25 is quite simply the finest TV we have reviewed in 2010 for both 2D and 3D viewing. It's a bit pricy but worth it. Seek out a player/glasses/movie bundle so you can watch Avatar in 3D at home and with the improved rechargeable eyewear. T...
