The editors liked

  • Excellent video performance
  • Great HD audio support
  • Slimline design
  • Profile 1.1
  • If it's Hi-Def movies you want then Panasonic's second-ever Blu-ray player delivers big time. 1080p pictures running at a cinema-esque 24fps will leave carpet burns on your chin. In the sonic stakes it handles up to 7.1 channels of smooth well-bal...
  • Latest Blu-ray spec. Great price. Streams all HD audio codecs. Fantastic picture and sound ...

The editors didn't like

  • Low-level fan noise
  • Dolby Digital 5.1 when the PIP secondary Audio mode is engaged
  • We would have really liked to have seen Profile 2.0 BD-Live compatibility included in the package. That would have given the DMP-BD30 the ability to access bonus content from the Internet
  • And made it nigh-on unbeatable in the Blu-ray battle. Oh well

  • Abstract:  The DMP-BD30 is the most DVD-like of any Blu-ray player I’ve used thus far, and I mean that in a good way. It combines the beautiful HD picture and high-resolution audio I want from Blu-ray with faster response time and generally seamless navigation...

  • With so much more to come from the Blu-ray format, the DMP-BD30 is by no means the last word in hi-def hardware. It won't support BD-Live and the lack of hi-res audio decoding is disappointing, given the scarcity of suitably equipped receivers. But when c...

  • Abstract:  I had the opportunity to review the Panasonic DMP-BD10 just after it was released into the Blu-ray player market. I was impressed with its video processing as well as its feature set, and Panasonic went on to refine it even more after its release. The...

  • Our first impressions of the DMP-BD30 havent changed much over time - the player gets it right where it matters - in the reproduction of high quality color-rich 1080p images, and in its ability to pass next generation lossless audio surround soundtrac...

  • The DMP-BD30 represents a significant improvement over Panasonic’s previous Blu-ray player, and it’s less expensive to boot. I’m bummed that it doesn’t play DVD-Audio, and I don’t care much for the menu system, but otherwise, it’s a superb Blu-ray play...

  • Abstract:  Weve almost become jaded with the rapid rollover of high-definition disc players. Some manufacturers are now on third generation models, and ready to launch a fourth generation at the January 2008 CES. But even with that, Panasonic surprised everyon...

  • Superb audio, superb video, Full bitstream access to Dolby TrueHD and DTSHD Master Audio, Good remote and ergonomics
  • No onboard Dolby TrueHD decoding, Mediocre scaling when upconverting 480i to 1080p, Would not provide a good HDMI link with all displays, Dense, poorly organized manual
  • While I found no compelling advantages to the Panasonics higher Java profile level than current competing players, that may well change as more fully-featured discs hit the market. Its lack of onboard Dolby TrueHD decoding, however, will be more signi...
