  • Great picture quality, HDMI support
  • Price, Slow menu The Final Word For the early adopters this is a great product, offering excellent image quality and a variety of connection options. The price tag however, is considerably higher than that the projected cost of competing HD-DVD players.

  • Unsurpassed high-definition image quality, Integrated memory card reader for photos, Glossy black and brushed aluminum case, Popup interactive menus during playback
  • Its uncertain whether Blu-ray Disc or HD DVD will prevail, Lack of movies available in Australia, Pricey for what is essentially a video player
  • Unless youre a zealous early adopter whos already invested in a high-definition TV, wed recommend waiting until the format war pans out a little more, or at least until more Blu-ray Disc content is made available. ...

  • Excellent support for high definition video via Blu-ray. Better performance with DVDs than most DVD players.
  • The Blu-ray player needs a 1080p24 output mode to eliminate jerkiness in pans. Should be able to switch off HDMI audio output.
  • Blu-ray is exciting, and the Samsung BD-P1000 is an excellent introduction to it. I would just implore Samsung to upgrade the unit to provide 1080p24 output.

  • Plays Blu-ray discs in true high definition; upscales standard DVDs to high definition; sleek design; 1080p output via HDMI.
  • Twice as expensive as the competing HD-DVD player; very few titles available at launch; video quality on initial titles less impressive than HD-DVD versions; slower load time; some operational bugs.
  • With video quality thats impressive but still not as good as its HD-DVD competition, the costly Samsung BD-P1000 will appeal only to those willing to risk a grand on a first-generation player in the middle of a format war.
