  • Simple to use
  • Internet catchup facility coming this autumn
  • Internet catch-up facility coming this autumn
  • The box produces truly excellent sharp-edged HD pictures and good quality standard definition images
  • But its skills don’t stop there
  • Rig it up to your Internet connection and you can stream on-demand content from iPlayer and Sky Player. You can also stream the programmes you’ve recorded on the HDR-FOX T2 to other UPnP devices on your home network – your laptop
  • For instance. Meanwhile
  • The USB
  • Cutting-edge design
  • Slick interface
  • Ease of use
  • Multi-media compatibility
  • Outputs Dolby Digital surround sound
  • Freeview HD. Slick UI. PVR. All three. Yay!
  • BBC iPlayer and internet radio function
  • Easy to operate
  • Excellent picture quality
  • Punchy sound
  • HD pictures
  • Networking
  • CI slot

The editors didn't like

  • High price
  • No on-demand content at launch
  • Low storage capacity
  • No inbuilt WiFi
  • Format support is meh
  • Doesn’t play all streaming media formats
  • A couple of interface problems
  • Flaws are notable by their absence here
  • But if we’re nitpicking we’d point to the fact you can’t set the box to output the source’s default resolution – in other words
  • For most users it’ll upscale standard def broadcasts to 1080i. You might want that job done by your TV instead.
  • No VoD until later in 2010
  • Can't trim recordings
  • Bit expensive
  • Still no Sky Player functionality
  • Limited file support

  • Media streaming, potential in software updates
  • No inbuilt WiFi, format support is meh
  • A nice little extra that could improve over time, but don’t treat it as more than icing on the cake...

  • HD pictures, networking, CI slot
  • Limited file support
  • For the most part a joy to use, this slick and speedy set-top box/home hub’s Freeview+ functionality is perhaps as important as its high-def ambitions and puts it alongside the likes of Sky+ and Virgin V+ on sheer ease of use - this is the finest produ...
