The editors liked The BenQ W1080ST DLP projector offers a very good image for the price with relatively deep blacks and faithful color Short throw allows placement close to the screen On a coffee table for example Onboard speaker Decent 3D performance Bright Clear picture Punchy highlights Deep Subtle blacks Good detail Easy to set up BenQ's no stranger to making projectors As we came away impressed with its compact and similarly shortthrow GP10 But it was limited in resolution and speed. The W1080ST takes the short range of its smaller sibling But you're treated to a full 1080p res Shortthrow lens 2.16metrewide image from 1.5 metres away No crosstalk (overlapping 2D images) in 3D mode Faithful colours in Standard mode Higherthanaverage contrast ratio (1 360 1 measured on our 1% white test card) Very little rainbow effect Low i Good brightness even with 3D images Works well in rooms with limited light control Good sharp images with decent motion handling Good video processing Good 3D performance Good value for money for those with a small space to work in Awesome value Short-throw lens is a great addition to the projector market Surprisingly good all-round picture quality Incredible throw ratio makes for a room-filling projection Much improved performance in dark scenes compared to W1060 Good selection of ports and logical OSD make for easy setup The editors didn't like Limited setup options with no manual lens shift Old 3D system No 3D glasses in package and cost $99 extra Colours could be subtler 3D glasses not included While the W1080ST excels at its main priority BenQ has also stuffed in a 10W speaker to try and offer you the compete cinema package. The speaker is simply terrible Though Giving hardly any clarity and tinny sound that is best avoided. The projector do Fan noise Small remote control without backlighting No lens shift No motion interpolation Mediocre black levels No shadow detail in lower reaches of the image Noisy even in low lamp settings Very minor rainbow effect No vertical image shift Dark 3D scenes lack a little depth No 3D glasses included in the box Noisy fan during operations noticeable at low volume levels HDTVs are still superior for darker scenes Score 10/10
