The editors liked

  • Deep black levels and natural colours
  • Great picture performance. A very quiet unit
  • Fantastic contrast ratio
  • Great features
  • Superb picture quality
  • Think Texas Instruments owns digital projection? Think again. JVC’s liquid crystal on silicon D-ILA chips have a greater pixel density than DLP and can produce startlingly realistic results. And the HD has three of them. Its 15

  • Quiet fan

The editors didn't like

  • Images could be brighter. Pictures look a bit soft.
  • The looks are an acquired taste and it is very
  • Very big
  • There’s nothing wrong with the HD1 that a lottery win wouldn’t fix. Apart from its stratospheric price tag
  • You might watch out for its twin HDMI ports
  • Which are only v1.2 instead of the newest v1.3 sockets that support Deep Colour.
  • Pictures look a tad soft
  • Pricier than some of its 1080p competitors
  • Large and bulky

  • Abstract:  To say that JVC’s DLA-HD1 and DLA-RS1 have caused a slight commotion in the front projection community would be akin to describing a full fledged earthquake as a minor rumble. Every so often a product comes along that redefines our expectations for...

  • Abstract:  Other features of the HD1 are the set of two HDMI slots, RS-232C control terminal (suited to custom installers), S-Video and Composite video inputs and component jacks. The design is, as you can see, erring on the side of ungainly but it has made some ...

  • Abstract:  JVC may have been struggling of late, but it has certainly raised the bar with its Full HD D-ILA projector. John Archer puts it to the test, and needs a lie down afterwards. Ladies and gentlemen, you are cordially invited to join us as we explore a pr...

  • Extremely deep black levels; very natural-looking colors; quiet fan.
  • Pictures look a tad soft; pricier than some of its 1080p competitors; large and bulky.
  • JVCs DLA-HD1 is a ground-breaking projector that beams out images with extremely natural colors and black levels. That said, its not quite as sharp or as bright as some of its cheaper rivals.
