The editors didn't like
Really needs Prime
Non-universal search
Some codec limitations
A cheaper model currently on sale in the US will probably arrive in the UK soon. There's no ITV
Channel 4 or Now TV support
And the voice search only works with Amazon material. It's expensive too
That voice search that is so amazing? It only searches content available on Amazon. Gaming is cool
But nothing to write home about. Home screen favours Amazon content while relegating other channels to out-of-the-way submenus
Amazon Prime is effectively a must
Non
Universal search
No HDMI cable included in the box
Voice search only works with a few services
Needs more of the main broadcaster apps
Voice search limited to Amazon content
Occasional remote lag
Limited catchup
Media streaming functionality dependent upon apps
Not that much 4K content is on the platform yet
Ultra HD movies are very expensive
If you haven't got an Amazon Prime or Prime Instant Video membership you won't get the most from it

Access to plenty of 4K content, Easy to set up and use, Excellent gaming, regular content and apps access, Streams content very smoothly, Powerful processing specs for smooth use, Excellent price
No HDMI 2.0 as far as we can tell, Weak on game selection, No access to full range of Google Play apps, Heavily oriented toward Amazon Prime subscribers
Overall, the Amazon Fire TV box with 4K support is a great piece of hardware that's been build and programmed well for the range of features it offers. We generally think that the Nvidia Shield is the better device, but if you're an Amazon Prime subscrib...

Easy to set up and use, Easy to use the remote, Apps and games load quickly, Has a wide variety of apps and games, Has accurate voice search, Has the most comprehensive parental controls out of all the products we tested, Low power usage
Voice search doesn't work with non-Amazon apps (Netflix, Hulu Plus, etc.)

The Amazon Fire TV is a marvel of technology, simplicity, and just something which tries to deliver a free-form experience by allowing side-loading/installation of any unofficial apk off of its own Appstore, and ADB debugging for more flexibility. The pot...

Abstract: Once you plug the Fire TV Stick into the back of your TV, it's completely out of sight, which is very nice. The Fire TV box, on the other hand, is a little bigger than an old-school portable CD player. It does, however, offer a sleek, all-black industrial...
