  • Provides for high-resolution viewing Easy integration into a home theater Aggregates all of your digital content
  • Requires PC for digital content Wireless connection can drop HD signals
  • s The only real competitor to the Enterainer would seem to be the AppleTV, but this doesnt really do a service to either device as the technical differences are obvious but not deal-breakers in either case. On the hardware side, the AppleTV has faster...

  • Supports both Apple and Windows Media DRM, Can work as a DVR
  • Setup menu is hard to get to, Occasional stutter on 1080p highdef content
  • Though pricey, the EVA8000 offers versatile features and DRM support that you won?t find anywhere else.

  • Abstract:  I suspected that sooner or later entertainment delivered by my cable modem, initially for the computer screen, would displace the time and premium dollars Id be spending on conventional cable channels. That day has arrived at the point in the chain w...

  • The EVA8000 is clearly an extremely capable media streaming system. Not only is it able to play HD video over a pretty sluggish 802.11g network – an impressive feat in its own right – but it can also be used to stream, listen to and display a large propor...

  • Very versatile media extender. Plays lots of DRM-protected files. Can access YouTube and Flickr over the Internet. Records TV via your computer. Plays content directly off USB drives.
  • Crashes more than Billy Joel. The complex setup process may prove tricky even for networking pros. Interface graphics and device itself are ugly. No hard drive. Cant auto-update its media library.
  • Setting it up was a nightmare, the device crashed easily, and it isnt attractive, to boot. Still, when its up and running, the product has an impressive feature set. If Apple TV is for the iPod-familiar, hands-off user, then the Netgear is for the pa...

  • No 802.11n Wi-Fi, and wireless performance was not flawless; protected iTunes songs take 15 seconds to load; interface isnt quite as simple as Apple TVs; would occasionally freeze up and require unplugging and plugging back in; large compared to Appl...
  • While its not as slick as Apple TV and its performance isnt flawless, the Netgear EVA8000s awesome array of features should delight tech-savvy digital media hounds.

  • Supports multiple video formats, Easily finds media content on your PC, Plays back YouTube videos, Internet radio support, HDMI port
  • Struggles with 1080p files, Basic setup mode is time-consuming, Remote is too small
  • In the not-too-distant future, all of our entertainment media will be digital. And eventually, well be able to store it all on the Internet. Until then, products such as the Netgear Digital Entertainer HD EVA8000 streaming set-top box do an adequate j...

  • Abstract:  IntroIn 1999 when I cofounded Mediabolic, we had a vision of the “connected home” that we pitched all over the world. In 2000, I first started hearing (and using) the phrase “THIS is the year of the Digital Home” (yes, in all-caps)...
