The editors liked

  • Excellent image stabilisation
  • Large 3.4'' LCD screen
  • Robust frame
  • 30.4 mm wideangle lens
  • Mic input
  • Very good image quality
  • Impressive lowlight performance
  • Plenty of storage space
  • Manual controls
  • The Canon LEGRIA HF G10’s build is made of tough plastic that is much stronger than that may sound. The LEGRIA HF G10 is a heavy duty camcorder that you can feel safe lugging around. The manual focus ring feels very professional and gives you the ultimate control over your shots while still being easy to use. For more serious filmmakers a handy microphone input helps to deliver impressive audio.
  • 1080/25p quality video impressed
  • Full manual control
  • No compromises
  • Assignable control dial
  • Excellent image quality
  • Lens focus ring
  • Comprehensive manual controls

The editors didn't like

  • Noise affects video when light levels are low
  • No 50p mode
  • Very expensive
  • Large and heavy
  • No 1080/50p mode
  • A price of around £1
  • 200 might be a little steep
  • And compared the very best in class there are camcorders out there that offer slightly more detail for the price. And its 10x optical zoom is a tad too limiting to offer ultimate shooting flexibility
  • And unless you purchase an adapter
  • You won’t be able to add your own standard video light or camcorder as the accessory shoe is Canon’s S Mini Adva
  • It's a touch expensive
  • Weird mix of pro features and gimmicks
  • Relatively pricey
  • Proprietary Canon accessory shoe

  • Despite its high price, the Canon LEGRIA HF G10 is a great camcorder for amateur movie makers and camcorder aficionados. Its performance is fantastic with little to no sign of grain or noise in bright and low light conditions. It is also easy to use. ...

  • Excellent image quality, Lens focus ring, Comprehensive manual controls
  • Relatively pricey, Proprietary Canon accessory shoe
  • Canon's LEGRIA HF G10 is close to being a perfect camcorder for video enthusiasts or professionals looking for a second unit for quick handheld work. Only the lack of a standard-sized accessory shoe and the price let it down. These two factors mean this c...

  • Excellent image stabilisation, Large 3.4'' LCD screen, Robust frame, 30.4 mm wideangle lens, Mic input
  • Noise affects video when light levels are low, No 50p mode
  • A year ago, the HF G10 would have been one of the best HD camcorders around. But today, the lack of a 50p mode and poor performance in low light put it behind its rivals Sony and Panasonic, despite Canon's insistence on a 'high-end' price tag ......

  • Exceptional video and audio quality, Extensive manual controls, Dual memory card slots and 32 GB internal memory
  • Touch screen can be temperamental, Slightly bulky body
  • While the Vixia HF G10 comes at a much higher price than what an average consumer might be willing to pay for a camcorder, reviews overwhelmingly praise this device's stunning video quality and capabilities. The pro-grade CMOS offers 24p video, and an ima...

  • The Canon Vixia HF G10 delivers great video quality and a lot of useful features for advanced shooters
  • Design issues that affect frequently used adjustments may annoy the very people the camcorder is designed to attract, and for the money it should ship with a double-capacity battery
  • While it's got a great shooter feature set and good video quality, the Canon Vixia HF G10 still feels a bit expensive for what it offers.
