  • Very Quiet at Low Speeds, Easy Installation, Good Performance
  • Nothing Major
  • Over the years Thermaltake has produced some great CPU Coolers, and the Big Typhoon VX is just another in their line of great coolers. Thermaltake was one of the pioneers in the enthusiast cooling market, and they just keep pumping out great products....

  • One of the best air coolers we've ever tested. And it's pretty quiet.
  • It's friggin' huge.

  • Universal platform (Intel LGA77, AMD 754/939/AM2, Six heat pipe, Solid performanc, Builtin speedfan controlle, Quiet cooler
  • Size; Big – may complicate installation in some motherboards and case, Weight
  • The Big Typhoon VX is a good CPU cooler from Thermaltake, which makes justice to its name. It’s huge and heavy, but it has the advantage of carrying a large diameter 120mm fan, which can be used at low rotations, but still provide good airflow, ...

  • We concluded in our comments on the Scythe Andy Samurai Master vs. Thermaltake MaxOrb review that the heatpipe tower has emerged as the best performing design among the coolers we have tested. None of the down-facing fan coolers have been able to reall...

  • Excellent performance, Very good heatsink build quality, Bundled 120mm variable speed fan, Easy to install (will vary by motherboard), Supports both Intel LGA775 and AMD K8/AM2 platforms, Looks good
  • Mounting hardware not as robust as previous systems, Fan speed control mounted on top of cooler (not easily accessible)
  • The Big Typhoon VX heatsink fan delivers excellent performance, offers a broad operating range, and looks great. The speed of the included 120mm fan can be adjusted to provide the right balance of cooling performance and noise. However, getting to ...

  • The Thermaltake Big Typhoon VX can easily handle the heat produced by Intel's Core 2 Duo processors and can even handle Intel Core 2 Quad processors meaning this heat sink will last more than one upgrade. ...

  • Quality Built, Easy Installation, Variable Speed Fan, GREAT performance, Compatible with LGA775, K8, and AM2
  • Fan connector could be longer
  • The Thermaltake Big Typhoon VX is a BEAST! It is the best air-cooled CPU we have taken a look at so far. With an amazing temperature of 23 degrees during idle you really cannot match that with another air-cooled CPU cooler. Also the load performance w...

  • Huge cooling ability both physically and thermally, Extremely simplified installation, especially on the AMD under Socket 939/AM2, Low fan speed is nice and quiet, Integrated fan control knob simplifies operation (but placement is not ideal)
  • Installation under an INTEL LGA775 platform required disassembly of the system, High Fan Speed was nearly useless in our tests, and much too noisy.
  • The Big Typhoon VX certainly flexes its coppery muscles with a very impressive drop in temperature over the stock cooler for the Core 2 Duo. Its performance today is just a testament to the solid design skills from years ago. Flexing the "Hexapipes" ...

  • This isnt the largest heatsink fan I have reviewed, but it is the first with six separate heat-pipes and a set of two cooling fins. Does this design lead to better cooling? Well, the numbers in the testing dont lie. The was only a few degrees C...

  • Quiet cooler, Modular design, Easy to install, Built in fan controller...
  • Weight, Size, Poorer performance than cheaper coolers...
  • After seeing the performance of this cooler, even on an overclocked CPU, it left me with few doubts regarding its ability. The sheer size and cooling performance of this thing make it a must have for any enthusiast or hardcore overclocker. This unit w...
