  • Thanks to an enormous capacity in a still just handleable bus-powered package drive chassis, the WD My Passport Pro could prove invaluable for carrying huge volumes of data on the road. At £350 for the 4 TB version it is not pocket-change cheap but nevert...

  • Abstract:  The key word here, I'd argue, is Thunderbolt. The 4TB version of the My Passport Pro offers transfer speeds of up to 230MB/s; the 2TB version, which Western Digital provided to us for review, does even better at 233MB/s. If you've got a Thunderbolt Mac, y...

  • The drive doesn't support USB nor does it have an extra Thunderbolt port. The 4TB version is bulky
  • The WD My Passport Pro is an all-around excellent storage solution for any Thunderbolt-enabled Macs, particularly the MacBook Pro or Air....

  • Great striped drive performance, Good capacity/performance balance, Easy, to, use tools, Really nicely made
  • Loud fan whirr, Thunderbolt, only, No SSD option at all
  • The My Passport Pro is smart, fast and very desirable for portable working. It's the fastest possible storage, but it's still pro-level, and offers true portability with terabytes of storage for under £250. Not a bad deal at all....

  • highperformance and highcapacity, Thunderbolt interface, supports RAID 0, RAID 1, JBOD
  • bigger and heavier than a conventional portable drive, no USB interface
  • Portable drives generally trade performance for portability, but the My PassPort manages to provide desktop-levels of performance wrapped up in a chunky but still portable design. The WD Passport Pro is also quite competitively priced when compared with o...

  • Large capacity, Tethered Thunderbolt cable with adequate length, Bus powered RAID solution
  • Fan is infrequent but noisy, Big and bulky
  • Hand it to Western Digital for trying new things. It's cool that there's a portable software RAID solution available, and bus-powered storage options with 4TB capacities are few and far between. Western Digital also offers a 2TB version of the My Passpor...

  • Real Thunderbolt transfer speeds of up to 233 MBps, Integrated Thunderbolt cable means one less thing to buy, RAID 0, RAID 1 or JBOD configuration, Relatively small foot print for storage of this size
  • Integrated Thunderbolt cable, could be a point of failure (not user replaceable), Weight is on the hefty side for a portable, No extra Thunderbolt port on device for daisy chaining
  • The WD My Passport Pro 4TB Thunderbolt drive does what it says it will do, and it does it without sacrificing the read and write performance. The ~200MBps read and write speeds will keep you editing high-definition videos without having to worry about run...
