The editors liked

  • We won’t name names
  • But some Windows Ultrabook makers have completely ripped off Apple’s design (Oh go on then
  • We mean you
  • Asus). The Aspire S7 doesn’t suffer from this
  • It may be thin and light with a tapering chassis
  • But its metal frame and white lacquered top give it its own unique style
  • And it’s one we’re quite taken with. Acer’s managed to stuff plenty of ports into the slim frame too
  • Extremely slim
  • Attractive white design
  • Touchscreen for Windows 8
  • Full HD display
  • Capacious hard drive
  • Gorgeous exterior
  • 1080p screen and good viewing angle

  • Great performance from the CPU
  • RAM and SSD
  • Slim (1.19 cm) and lightweight (1.28 kg)
  • Full HD IPS touchscreen
  • Low heat
  • Quality finish
  • Attractive glass design
  • High
  • End hardware configuration
  • Full
  • Day battery life
  • Beautifully designed
  • Super-slim

The editors didn't like

  • While we like the design of the Acer Aspire S7
  • We’re a bit baffled by some of the nonsense Acer’s scrawled on it around the keyboard. We doubt you’ll feel the need to be constantly reminded that it’s been “Professionally Tuned”
  • Or that the sound has been “Dolby Home Theater”-ified.But that’s a minor issue. The S7’s greatest sin is its trackpad. It’s loose and unresponsive in a way that’ll leave
  • Expensive
  • Not fantastic performance for the money
  • Trackpad isn't very responsive
  • Too expensive
  • Small trackpad lacks response to defter touches
  • Shallow key presses
  • Key backlighting isn't uniform
  • Fairly average battery life
  • Bothersome fan noise
  • Lacklustre battery
  • Fair share of bloatware
  • Gets loud (between 45 and 50 dB(A)) when the fan kicks in
  • Poor quality speakers
  • Glossy screen with inaccurate colours
  • Screen limited to 1080p
  • Too much bloatware
  • Noisy
  • Poor battery life
  • Sharp edges and awkward to open
  • Slightly below average battery life

  • Abstract:  Arguably the most important tool in your academic arsenal as a student is your ultrabook. That sexy, thin, power-sipping marvel in your satchel will see you through the next four years of study, provided nobody spills beer on it first. Here are our picks...

  • My first glance at the Acer Aspire S7 Ultrabook had me thinking “eww… white… no, that's not me”. Further examination reveals a better Ultrabook than I gave it credit for; there's probably an platitude about judging Ultrabooks by their cover in there somew...

  • It's really refreshing to come to the end of this review and be able to say that I would buy this computer for personal use. Well, if it wasn't so expensive, I would. The price is just a bit hard to swallow. Acer has the machine available for $1649.99...

  • Abstract:  Aspire S7 Ultrabooks S7-391-9886 has been conceptualized and designed not only to meet the parameters of the Ultrabook guidelines as prescribed by the semiconductor giant Intel, but even to exceed it, along with pampering premium consumers, who look for s...

  • With the S7, Acer has delivered a wonderful Windows 8 ultrabook design, even if it didn't quite manage to deliver the battery life we expected. It is a truly luxurious product, with great attention to engineering detail as well as great integration with Wi...

  • Abstract:  When Intel first launched its ultrabook branding last year it was met with a handful of different models from the major PC manufacturers. Windows 8 will see this trickle turn into a flood, as the number and diversity of ultrabook designs swells with featu...

  • Beautiful design. Monitor increases resistance as you open it farther, minimising screen wobble from touching. Full HD IPS screen. Dual SSDs in RAID 0 bring plenty of speed
  • Expensive. Battery life could be better. Backlit keyboard makes the keys harder to read in half-light. Can get loud under load
  • The 13.3-inch version of Acer's Aspire S7 laptop is gorgeous. There are a few minor niggles, it's expensive and battery life isn't the best, but despite all this, this is one of the better Windows 8 solutions out there at this point in time....

  • Aluminium chassis is solid and comfy on the palms; Beautiful IPS touchscreen; Despite being shallow, the keyboard is comfortable to use; Speedy and responsive;
  • No obvious Caps Lock indicator; Cover glass gets grubby quickly; Backlighting isn't very bright; While the touchscreen gestures are excellent, the trackpad ones are not; Battery life could be better;
  • For the first Windows 8 machine we've seen, and Acer's first attempt at a machine for the operating system, the company has done a bloody impressive job with the Aspire S7, producing a machine that not only checks a lot of boxes, but damn near nails them...

  • Excellent screen, Lovely design, Strongly built, Very fast SSD
  • Shallow keys, Touchpad could be a little better, Battery life a little short
  • Thin and light construction, along with a clean design and an excellent touchscreen should make the Aspire S7 a popular choice among users who are after a premium Windows 8 Ultrabook. Its keys could use more travel, the touchpad could be a little more sol...
