The editors liked

  • Handsome design
  • Reasonable price
  • Good multitasking
  • HP Pivot is great
  • WebOS. Cards is without question our favorite multitasking solution. Swiping your finger from the bottom to top of the screen turns an active application into a “card”. A second swipe closes out the app. Holding your finger down on the card allows you to arrange the application or “stack”. By stacking similar applications you are able to organize dozens of open apps much easier than on iOS

The editors didn't like

  • Performance is inconsistent
  • Screen is a dim
  • Fingerprint-tastic
  • No video-out
  • The build quality and sluggish user interface
  • Expensive considering lack of 3G
  • Business features need HP Pre 3 ideally
  • Chunky and heavy
  • Very few apps
  • Grubby plastic finish
  • Plastic build
  • Question over speed of app development
  • Only a front-facing camera
  • Needs more apps
  • Smudges easily
  • No video out
  • Dearth of apps. Firing up apps is slow
  • You're unlikely to find one
  • As hordes of bargainhungry consumers have snapped up much of the UK's stock.
  • Small app selection
  • Can become very slow
  • Lacking some features like rear camera

  • Abstract:  For ease of use, you can link the device to any other device running WebOS to share files. The price is pretty much like most tablets this size, but you get a lot more power and security under the hood. In fact...

  • Thick body, Buggy, Few native apps, Long boot time, No rear camera, No MicroSD card slot
  • This tablet's strengths—an elegant new OS, smart integration with your online accounts, and a great screen and audio—can’t overcome a long list of bugs. ...

  • Many of the issues I've encountered--the performance problems, the bad Web-page handling, the poor text and graphics rendering, and perhaps even the off-base colors--may be addressable via software fixes in the future. Only HP's developers know the ex...

  • The HP ToucPad is a vital tablet, and it’s really vital for HP and will give customers another option in the market in addition to what Google and Apple are offering. Ultimately the HP TouchPad feels like a nicely built-engineered rival of the origina...

  • The HP TouchPad is a two-part story, first the brand new webOS 3.0 and second the tablet hardware it’s launching on. webOS itself is everything we hoped it would be on a larger touchscreen, the slick multitasking system, unobtrusive notifications and ...

  • Top-notch, intuitive user interface. Fast performance. 9.7-inch, 4:3 screen excellent for video and photos. Synergy features make integrating with social networks and websites easy. Strong Facebook app.
  • App is selection is limited at launch. No rear-facing camera or video-recording capabilities. Screen sometimes needs multiple taps. Almost twice as thick as the iPad 2.
  • With solid hardware and a user-friendly operating system based around multitasking and intuitive organization, the HP TouchPad is the best non-Apple tablet we've tested. There aren't a lot of apps yet, but Android Honeycomb tablet manufacturers should...

  • The HP TouchPad is the most worthy competitor to the top-of-the-tablet-heap Apple iPad. There's room for improvement, but webOS 3.0 has the secret ingredient that iOS has always had, and that Google's Honeycomb still seems to lack: It's fun and simple ...

  • The HP TouchPad uses Palm's unique WebOS interface and delivers Adobe Flash-enabled Web browsing, Beats audio enhancement, and impressive compatibility with third-party calendar, messaging, and e-mail services
  • The TouchPad has a thick, smudgy design, offers no rear camera or HD video capture, includes a limited app selection, and its unique cards system of multitasking isn't as fully utilized as it could be
  • The TouchPad would have made a great competitor for the original iPad, but its design, features, and speed put it behind today's crop of tablet heavyweights.

  • Sponsored, The major concepts and foundations for an amazing tablet are there, and they're all genuinely innovative and fantastic. Cards may be the perfect metaphor for multitasking. Notifications are excellent. So's the Twitter for iPad-like sliding pane
  • Advertisement, There's no nice way to say this: Shit just plain doesn't work, far more often than it should. And there's no more guaranteed way to make something feel like a train wreck in slow motion than to make it run like it's a train wreck in slow mo
  • Youre stepping on my dreams, HP. The TouchPad is so close, closer than anything else, to being good. But its also very, very far from it.AdvertisementLook, give this thing six months. It could be amazing. If its not by then, well, I guess that says eve...

  • WebOS is a capable third (or fourth) entrant into the mobile OS race. As with Duckie, however, I worry that the average Molly Ringwald will go with the popular Blaine rather than the loyal and arguably better school nerd. I don't agree that the TouchPad w...
