The editors didn't like

  • Pauses music when notifications come through on Apple Watch
  • Plastic design might not suit everyone
  • Lots of bass
  • Expensive
  • Underwhelming bass
  • Poor wireless call quality
  • W1 battery/connection boost only for Apple
  • Lower-mids could do with more separation
  • The best tech reserved for Apple devices
  • Not booming
  • But still bassy
  • Bold looks not to all tastes
  • Soggy mids
  • Don't quite deliver the sub-bass power you may want
  • Design is the same as previous model's. Does not fold flat and carrying case is somewhat bulky
  • Noise cancellation isn't as effective as the QuietComfort 35's
  • Sound quality could be better
  • For the price
  • No auto shutdown
  • Disappointing midrange
  • Hot ears
  • The touch control on the ear cup make a hard clicking sound when pressed
  • Not suitable for exercise as they slip forward

  • Comfortable to wear, Lots of volume, Surprisingly balanced sound (for Beats), Well priced (for Beats), W1 chip is great on Apple devices
  • No noise cancellation settings on iPhone (either on or off), No noise cancellation switch on Android (always on), No Lightning cable included in the box for iPhones, Design is very plasticky
  • Despite the niggles, for the first time we are properly impressed by the price and balance on offer from the Beats Studio series. Normally, these headphones are big and expensive with overly bassy sound, but this time they're actually a little lighter on...
