  • Abstract:  Sonys PlayTV is an add-on for the PlayStation 3 (PS3) console. The small box contains a dual Freeview TV tuner, which lets you watch and record digital TV on your console. It connects via USB, but the PS3 has USB ports on the front, so you cant tu...

  • No series link, no RF loop through, some crashes, cant record two channels simultaneously
  • There is no doubt that adding PlayTV to your PS3 gives you a whole world of possibilities: it doesnt give you the full functionality of a standalone PVR unit, but for occasional recording, it suits perfectly well...

  • Abstract:  One more time without Freeview please?...For $169.95, PlayTV turns your PS3 into an HD PVR. And they're bundling a 250GB PS3 with PlayTV for $599. Looks like a clear bargain, you'd think — and another step in the PS3's advance to home entertainment status...

  • Cheap. Decent quality recordings. EPG support. Rounds out PS3 feature set nicely
  • Glitchy operation. No remote recording or "series link". Gameplay can affect recordings. No remote. Can only record one channel at once
  • The Sony PlayTV is a good "freebie" for buyers of the new 250GB PS3 and it can be useful if you don't already have a PVR, but it's fairly limited in performance and scope....
