The editors liked
Cool design
Swappable bands
Longer battery
Waterproof and feels and wellmade Battery will last a full weekend Screen is bright and sharp
The original Galaxy Gear smartwatch was by no means a looker
As it was rather bulky and unsightly - thankfully
Samsung has streamlined its successor
And it's a much slicker item of wrist wear that actually looks like a proper watch. Gone from the strap is the watch's camera - instead
It's been integrated into the top of the watch's upper edge
Meaning you can swap in different watch straps -
The Samsung Gear 2 smartwatch delivers an improved design

The editors didn't like
Still chunky
Likely expensive
Software can be fiddly to navigate Camera is low quality and feels unnecessary Accelerometer needs work Far too expensive
Unfortunately
While Samsung has steadily improved the overall smartwatch package
It still falls short on both being a watch
And frankly
Being smart. While its battery life has been improved
It still only lasts around three days
Meaning you'll have to charge it up at least twice a week - not ideal when you want to rely on your timepiece for
Well
The time. The switch to Tizen has meant that
Limited number of apps
Poor S-Health fitness app syncing
Can only be paired to Samsung phones
Camera is an unnecessary extra for the $100 it costs over the Gear 2 Neo
Disapointting snapper
Fiddly software
Pricey
Unreliable accelerometer
Locked to Samsung devices
Battery life isn't great
Gear 2 Neo undercuts price
Might be obsolete due to Android Wear devices
Sports features aren't executed as well as sports watches
Poor sleep tracking
Questionable camera skills
Hefty price tag
Only Samsung compatible
Expensive
Unnecessary features with poor applications
Pointless camera
So-so battery life
Bulky watch face
Lack of thirdparty apps
Minor software glitches
Limited to working with only Samsung Galaxy devices
Not many apps available yet
Needs a dock to charge
Accelerator doesn't always activate screen when you move

I really like watches. I have a box of them at home and I’d love to add a smartwatch to my collection. But no manufacturer is quite there yet, including Samsung. The Gear 2 improves on much that was wrong with the Galaxy Gear; it’s light enough and (just...

Great for notifications, Heart rate monitor built in, Lots of apps, Super AMOLED display
Poor sleep tracking, Questionable camera skills, Hefty price tag, Only Samsung compatible
It's good to wear and handy for notifications but that better build and trinket of a camera come at too much of an extra cost for us to recommend it over the Gear 2 Neo. We like this smartwatch but it still doesn't feel like an essential part of our routi...

Samsung has made strides with the Gear 2, but this smartwatch is on its own island with few apps and Samsung-only device compatibility. At this point, you're better off waiting for Android Wear....

Nice looking premium design, stacked full of features, customisable user interface, great display
Locked to Samsung devices, battery life isn't great, Gear 2 Neo undercuts price, might be obsolete due to Android Wear devices, sports features aren't executed as well as sports watches
The Samsung Gear 2 offers a whole range of functionality and it is impressive what Samsung has packed into this wearable device. As a watch we like the design, the slick navigation, and the display is bright, vibrant and responsive. But we're left...
