Ignore all the hype about the Microsoft Surface
Asus’ hardware puts it to shame. Typically
Intel-powered tablets are thick
Noisy affairs
But this model’s just 9.7mm thin and at 580g
Pleasantly light too. Though it’s non-descript
It’s a whole lot more portable than Microsoft’s clunky Surface - and that doesn’t even run full Windows 8 like this does.On the sides
You’ll find a micro HDMI port

If it’s ease of use you want
Avoid the Asus VivoTab Smart. Yes
You can have more than one app on screen at once
And yes
You can use whatever web browser you like. But it can be daunting for tech newbies
And more than a little fiddly tapping the right icon and moving windows around on a relatively small touchscreen. To get the most out of it you’re better off plugging in a keyboard and mouse
Can be sluggish
Not enough RAM
Windows 8 is confusing here and RT would have been simpler
Screen could be better
Dull design
Can run slowly
Creaky build
Basic keyboard
Like other Intel Atom chipbased Windows 8 portables we're seeing at the moment
It could do with a bit more under the hood

It shouldn't be a shocker that the ASUS MeMO Pad Smart 10 performed best in gaming tasks, given that it's equipped with an NVIDIA Tegra 3 SoC. Conversely, the VivoTab Smart was better at handling JavaScript, as both tablets played to their strengths. ...
Well, there you have it. I think the VivoTab Smart may be the first serious Windows 8-powered competitor to Android- and iOS-based tablets. No, really. It's priced competitively. It's as thin and light as the best of 'em. It's quicker to boot up and to h...
Abstract: Despite all the Microsoft Surface hype, Windows 8 tablets have yet to find their niche. It's difficult, after all, to be more expensive than Apple's ever-cool iPad, yet less usable than a reasonably cheap laptop. So what can the Asus VivoTab Smart—a slim l...
Light, comfortable to hold, solid build, Less expensive than the competition, Runs full Windows 8 and older programs, Long battery life
No full USB input port, Underpowered Atom processor, Cameras unimpressive
Compared to the competition, the Asus VivoTab Smart, at $500, is on the inexpensive side for Windows 8 tablets. That's a very un-netbook-like price, though. And if you're going to use the tablet for real work, you'll need to shell out another $100 for t...

Cheap plastic construction. Wimpy speakers. Limited port selection requires adapters for usability. Accessories, like cover and keyboard, not yet available
The Asus VivoTab Smart ME400C is aimed at the budget shopper who wants a full Windows 8 slate tablet, but it won't replace your laptop....
Full Windows 8 experience, Lightweight and portable, Good battery life
Atom processor and 2GB of RAM holds performance back, Only 25GB of free internal storage
With the Asus VivoTab Smart currently priced at $499, it’s a compelling option for those looking for a moderately-sized tablet running the full Windows 8 platform without breaking the bank. But when adding on the $150 TranSleeve Keyboard option, you’r...
