Ignore all the hype about the Microsoft Surface
Asus’ hardware puts it to shame. Typically
Intel-powered tablets are thick
Noisy affairs
But this model’s just 9.7mm thin and at 580g
Pleasantly light too. Though it’s non-descript
It’s a whole lot more portable than Microsoft’s clunky Surface - and that doesn’t even run full Windows 8 like this does.On the sides
You’ll find a micro HDMI port
Full Windows experience
Compact and light
Well-built
Upgradable storage via microSD
Value for money
Windows 8
Decent camera
Good battery life
Accurate picture and sound
Lots of storage capacity
Most of it
Actually. It looks and feels fantastic to the point where you even begin to fall in love with the Windows 8 software
What's not?
Like other Intel Atom chipbased Windows 8 portables we're seeing at the moment
It could do with a bit more unde

Processor slow
Ports problematic
Could be brighter
Software problems
Lowresolution screen
Plastic casing feels quite cheap
If it’s ease of use you want
Avoid the Asus VivoTab Smart. Yes
You can have more than one app on screen at once
And yes
You can use whatever web browser you like. But it can be daunting for tech newbies
And more than a little fiddly tapping the right icon and moving windows around on a relatively small touchscreen. To get the most out of it you’re better off plugging in a keyboard and mouse
Can be sluggish
Not enough RAM
Windows 8 is confusing here and RT would have been simpler
Screen could be better
Dull design
Can run slowly
Creaky build
Basic keyboard
Like other Intel Atom chipbased Windows 8 portables we're seeing at the moment
It could do with a bit more under the hood
The bottom line
The Asus VivoTab Smart is a genuine contender and well worth your time when looking for an allpurpose tablet. Loo
Bright, viewing angle stable and high-contrast screen, Good touch features with reliable feedback, Good battery life, Far-reaching Windows compatibility
Fiddly micro interfaces, Hardware button with moderate feedback, Partly outdated performance for Windows 8
Asus VivoTab SmartAsus' VivoTab Smart is configured with a full version of Windows 8 and a decent selection of interfaces. On the one hand, that theoretically leads to unrestricted compatibility with the Windows world but on the other, the hardware requir...

nice screen, good colors, brightness, pretty good audio, good bass and volume, full desktop mode on tablet, fast tablet with lower specs, good price, faster app opening than Win RT, And the
very low resolution screen, low battery life, Sucky UI (jumps back to WIMPmode in heavy use)
Abstract: ASUS is well renowned for its Android-based Transformer series of tablets and the company appears to be using the same formula for upcoming Windows 8 RT devices. The ASUS Vivo Tab RT comes bundled with a keyboard dock that includes a built-in battery, eff...
Excellent general specs, 8MP camera, full Windows 8
Processor slow, Ports problematic, Could be brighter
So the main question - should you buy the Asus VivoTab ME400? Well we do love it. In fact, we'd certainly go as far as to say this is the best Windows 8 tablet we've yet seen in terms of power efficiency and capability. But we do have reservations over th...
Runs proper Windows 8, not that RT thing; Relatively inexpensive for a Windows 8 tablet; Charges over microUSB;
Keyboard doesn't really attach at the hinge; Takes more effort to set this tablet up as a notebook replacement compared with other tablet keyboard cases out there; Lacks the same hinge design as the Transformer range, so you can't plug it into a keyboard-
It's not the best option out there, but if you need the power of Windows 8 and want a touchscreen, the $600 price tag makes this an interesting choice. We're not sure if it's as good a value as say the $500 netbook-replacement touchscreen Asus we reviewed...

Beautiful screen, Well built, A pleasure to hold, Decent battery life
Runs fullfledged Windows 8, Generally good performance, IPS display
Plasticky built, Lowerres screen
The ASUS VivoTab Smart lacks some of the awesome bits of the other VivoTabs; it's not as solidly built, nor is the screen at Full HD. But the Smart does have its own, well, smarts, particularly in its good performances and its capability of running a ful...
