The editors liked

  • The frantic gameplay
  • Sassy lead character and the fact that at certain points
  • The game literally turns your world upside down thanks to Bayonetta’s witchlike powers
  • Spectacular graphics
  • Excellent combat system
  • Overall intensity
  • Stunning visuals and frame rates that never slow down no matter how crazy the action gets
  • Combat system both compliments beginner and professional play styles
  • Ranking system and bonus items encourage replay value
  • Superbly slick combo system that's as varied as it is exciting
  • Massive boss battles in stunning locations
  • Bayonetta. She kicks all sorts of ass and is funny too

The editors didn't like

  • The plot is a bit daft
  • And some of the dialogue is truly cringeworthy
  • A little heavy on sudden death moments
  • A few too many cutscenes
  • Camera issues can sometimes screw up complex combos
  • Camp vibes may not be to everyone's taste
  • The story. It's all over the place
  • Nowhere near enough Halos (currency) to buy everything in Rodin's shop
  • Certain QTEs are too fiddly

  • Abstract:  It used to be when I heard the old standard “Fly me to the Moon,” it would conjure up a flurry of images and thoughts: the bright lights of the New York skyline, nights out on the town in with a young girl on your arm, drinking rye in posh Manhattan...

  • Amazing presentation both visually and audibly; fluid and comprehensive combat; thrilling normal battles and even more thrilling boss fights; the pacing is never dull,
  • Somewhat obtrusive camera; short first campaign.
  • Bayonetta is quite simply, and dare I say it, the pinnacle of the action genre: beautiful visuals, a remarkable soundtrack, and a highly involved combat system. Finally a game of this caliber comes a long that requires the player to maintain some degre...

  • Abstract:  After a lengthy battle with a massive stone golem, who just happens to wear the giant face of a baby as a mask, I land a few gratuitous shots with my samurai sword, and am then prompted to teleport my hair into hell, where it summons a huge wolf-demon ...

  • Smooth combat controls, overthetop style, and beautiful visuals,
  • Awful camera system and minimal instructions.
  • Bayonetta is a charming and highly stylized third-person shooter with very easy to pick-up controls. To boot, the game features a stunning heroine and all-around great visuals. However, it's camera system is severely flawed and new players might feel...

  • Abstract:  Scoring two bonus points for wanton indulgence right off the bat, Bayonetta is nonetheless a ridiculous cringe fest when it comes to storytelling, character or anything remotely resembling intellectual stimulation. As a flat out action game in the vein ...

  • Bayonetta's brand of ostentatious hack and slash really is an acquired taste. It's garish, knowingly insane action demanding suspension of disbelief for the duration. Attempting to apply logic to Bayonetta would be like trying to teach English to...

  • Abstract:  Once upon a time, there was a Capcom employee named Hideki Kamiya. This man was the director of the original Devil May Cry, which then spawned a series of games featuring half-human/half-demon men with silver hair, pretty faces, and the ability to do r...

  • Abstract:  Bayonetta is a game of excess. Maybe that is the joke. Maybe that is why the designers decided one fight with each boss was not enough. Maybe their grand plan was to have Bayonetta, her twisty-hair clothing and all, battle the same boss back-to-back. M...

  • Abstract:  How can one accurately describe Bayonetta? The truth is, one can't, and that makes starting a review very difficult indeed. You could list any number of adjectives that partially describe the experience: hilarious, stupid, sexy, clever, deep, frustrat...

  • Bayonetta is a stylish action adventure with an intriguing, but sometime frustrating, storyline that offers a completely original take on demons, angels and witches. Bayonetta and her brash sexiness should be applauded for taking chances in the sometim...
