The editors liked

  • The frantic gameplay
  • Sassy lead character and the fact that at certain points
  • The game literally turns your world upside down thanks to Bayonetta’s witchlike powers
  • Spectacular graphics
  • Excellent combat system
  • Overall intensity
  • Stunning visuals and frame rates that never slow down no matter how crazy the action gets
  • Combat system both compliments beginner and professional play styles
  • Ranking system and bonus items encourage replay value
  • Superbly slick combo system that's as varied as it is exciting
  • Massive boss battles in stunning locations
  • Bayonetta. She kicks all sorts of ass and is funny too

The editors didn't like

  • The plot is a bit daft
  • And some of the dialogue is truly cringeworthy
  • A little heavy on sudden death moments
  • A few too many cutscenes
  • Camera issues can sometimes screw up complex combos
  • Camp vibes may not be to everyone's taste
  • The story. It's all over the place
  • Nowhere near enough Halos (currency) to buy everything in Rodin's shop
  • Certain QTEs are too fiddly

  • Abstract:  From the moment Bayonetta's prologue begins, it's made abundantly clear that you're entering a world of pure wonder and spectacle. As the prelude unfolds, you control the titular heroine and stylishly dispatch an angelic host of enemies while standing ...

  • Fluid, flexible, and fun combat system, Witch time and witch walk add new dimensions to battle, Fantastic, memorable boss fights, Intuitive scoring system with online leaderboards, Superbly animated
  • Some minor camera issues
  • Bayonetta is simultaneously gratuitous, ludicrous, and marvelous, but that's precisely why it's such a wild and fun adventure. ...

  • Impetuous style; so-cheesy-it's-awesome storyline; frenetic, engaging combat.
  • Half-assed quick-time events; camera focuses on the spectacle instead of the gameplay.

  • Abstract:  Bravo, PlatinumGames. You've made a game and created a heroine that gives Dante a reason to cry.

  • Abstract:  Action games of this sub-genre have always been about style and flash, but Bayonetta takes style and flash to a completely new, completely over the top level. Bayonetta is a witch with near limitless magical abilities and the developers made good use o...

  • Abstract:  Bayonetta is essentially a sequel masquerading as an original game. It's not a "nice first attempt." It's not short. It's not a foundation lacking features and variety and whatever else reviewers like to complain about. It has the kind of heft usually ...

  • Although Bayonetta has more than a few similarities to Devil May Cry, I wholeheartedly believe that this game is a must-play. Buyers beware, however: the 360 version is vastly superior to the PS3 version on a technical level, so PS3 owners fortunate en...

  • The combat system is just about perfect and the boss encounters are memorable.
  • It pushes the sex angle too far; the story makes absolutely no sense; and the game drags on longer than it should.
