The editors liked

  • The frantic gameplay
  • Sassy lead character and the fact that at certain points
  • The game literally turns your world upside down thanks to Bayonetta’s witchlike powers
  • Spectacular graphics
  • Excellent combat system
  • Overall intensity
  • Stunning visuals and frame rates that never slow down no matter how crazy the action gets
  • Combat system both compliments beginner and professional play styles
  • Ranking system and bonus items encourage replay value
  • Superbly slick combo system that's as varied as it is exciting
  • Massive boss battles in stunning locations
  • Bayonetta. She kicks all sorts of ass and is funny too

The editors didn't like

  • The plot is a bit daft
  • And some of the dialogue is truly cringeworthy
  • A little heavy on sudden death moments
  • A few too many cutscenes
  • Camera issues can sometimes screw up complex combos
  • Camp vibes may not be to everyone's taste
  • The story. It's all over the place
  • Nowhere near enough Halos (currency) to buy everything in Rodin's shop
  • Certain QTEs are too fiddly

  • Fluid, flexible and fun combat system , Witch time and witch walk add new dimensions to battle , Fantastic, memorable boss fights , Intuitive scoring system with online leaderboards , Superbly animated
  • Some minor camera issues
  • Bayonetta is simultaneously gratuitous, ludicrous and marvellous, but that's precisely why it's such a wild and fun adventure....

  • The combat system is just about perfect and the boss encounters are memorable
  • It pushes the sex angle too far, the story makes absolutely no sense, the game drags on longer than it should
  • Even after suffering through the gruelling battles, the repeated deaths, the campy dialogue and the head-numbingly bad plot, I still had a hell of time with Bayonetta thanks to the immensely satisfying combat, the inspired level design and the memorable b...

  • Abstract:  There’s no denying that Bayonetta is one of the sexiest gaming characters and from way she talks, flirts and flaunts her assets, the game is definitely oozing with a titillation factor. Obviously the creators had this in mind and whether it's the way s...

  • Witch time is a fantastic feature that should be in all action games like this. Gorgeous graphics. Bayonetta is a great character with a strong mix of confident, powerful and sexy attributes. Fluid controls and a great combat system that is easy to use fo...
  • A little screen tearing when there is too much happening. The story (whilst interesting in concept) is not told very well and can become confusing. Some may hate the music.

  • Abstract:  Bayonetta is an action game, the first in what can only be assumed to be a new franchise. Published by Sega, it is developed by Platinum Games - a company made up primarily of ex-Clover Studios (Okami, God Hand) staff. If you're familiar with Devil May...

  • Abstract:  Good grief... that is exactly what Charlie Brown would say were he ever to play Bayonetta. This is because the game has an extremely over-sexualized sense of style. >> Click here to win a copy of Bayonetta from Gameplanet.co.nz Don't let any of that fo...

  • Fun, fluid and fast combat system; plenty of over-the-top action moments; simple to pick up and play; amazingly designed levels.
  • Story is difficult to follow; slow frame rate and long load times for PS3 version.
  • Bayonetta measures up to be a pretty good action game by all accounts. While its story makes very little sense, its ridiculously over-the-top action more than makes up for this. It’s a highly accessible game with a low barrier of entry for those who...
