For a device so small the HTC Explorer has a great screen that at times displays colours wonderfully
Particularly when viewing video. It’s an LCD screen that when it wants to performs like the AMOLED screens you’ll find on pricier handsets. And as typical of HTC handsets
The HTC Explorer is well made. Like its more mid-entry lookalike the HTC Wildfire
The attention to detail here is to be appl

The editors didn't like
Dull design
Fuzzy screen
Poor camera capture quality
The HTC Explorer may be well built but it’s hardly the most desirable of phones. It’s an entry level phone
And it looks like one. And some will find it a little too small. This gives rise to problems typing on its dainty touchscreen keypad. Expect to make a lot of errors when typing. We praised the screen but it doesn’t always perform to its best. Browsing menus and quickly swiping between them
Tiny screen
Occasional lag
Only 3.15MP camera with no flash
Doesn't come with headphones
May be too highly priced
The chip is rather sluggish and surfing the net is not much fun on that small display
Which has disappointing resolution too
Small screen
Low-powered specs
Screen is a little too small
Screen looks bad with moving content
Hard to remove backplate
Short on internal storage
Soso camera
No Flash support
Modest spec
Camera quite poor
Small screen hampers the web browsing experience slightly

HTC's aim is to encourage newbies to try out smartphones, and with its simple email, net and apps and a neat £130 pricetag, the HTC Explorer represents a decent choice...
The advantage of a relatively low-powered screen and processor is that the modest 1230mAh battery should be able to go a few times round the block without a recharge and sure enough, this one gave a little over two days of consistent use. Indeed, the ...

Abstract: Budget phones aren't necessarily bad, the Orange San Francisco springs to mind, and the current state of the market shows there's a lot of choice for people looking to spend sub-£150 on a new device. With so much choice, it takes something rather special ...

Looking first at the Explorer's screen, we have a display that gives us low resolution image when compared to more expensive phones but it is an upgrade over the original Wildfire. The screen is a petite 3.2 inches, which coupled with a resolution of ...

Abstract: The HTC Explorer is an affordable, small-format Android smartphone that's clearly designed to appeal to people on a budget. At £150 (inc. VAT) the price is certainly attractive, and yet it's enough to expect a modicum of quality. HTC's name helps here too...
A compact handset that blends functionality with a non-threatening navigation, and at a price point that should suit someone looking to take that first plunge into smartphones...
The processor is slower than other recent HTC models, web browsing on the smaller screen isn’t that impressive and the screen resolution lacks sparkle Look and Feel...
HTC is trying to tempt basic phone users into smartphone territory with easy web, email and app features - and for £130, the Explorer is a very sound choice ...

Easy to use, Easy to customise, Nice price
Camera isn't the best, No flash, Maybe too small for some
A mixed bag of tricks, the HTC Explorer is as capable of seeming a great buy as it is of making you wish you had plumped for the next model up. Saved many times by its seamless Google OS innards, the HTC handset is little more than the standard Android sm...
