The editors liked

  • Small
  • Solid build quality
  • Smooth interface performance
  • Feature-packed camera
  • Uncluttered by pre-loaded apps
  • For a device so small the HTC Explorer has a great screen that at times displays colours wonderfully
  • Particularly when viewing video. It’s an LCD screen that when it wants to performs like the AMOLED screens you’ll find on pricier handsets. And as typical of HTC handsets
  • The HTC Explorer is well made. Like its more mid-entry lookalike the HTC Wildfire
  • The attention to detail here is to be appl
  • Comes with HTC Sense 3.5
  • Wi-Fi capabilities
  • Responsive touchscreen
  • Rubber casing means it can probably withstand a drop or two
  • Deeply integrated social networks
  • A neat phone that is easy to find your way around and is a good price for anyone wanting to enter the smartphone arena
  • Affordable Android action
  • Specially adapted Sense 3.5.a user interface
  • Cheap
  • Clear calls
  • Great for occasional users
  • Good battery life
  • Attractive price
  • Solid build
  • Android on a budget
  • Sturdy case
  • Sense user interface
  • Bright screen
  • Low price tag
  • Good performance for the price

The editors didn't like

  • Dull design
  • Fuzzy screen
  • Poor camera capture quality
  • The HTC Explorer may be well built but it’s hardly the most desirable of phones. It’s an entry level phone
  • And it looks like one. And some will find it a little too small. This gives rise to problems typing on its dainty touchscreen keypad. Expect to make a lot of errors when typing. We praised the screen but it doesn’t always perform to its best. Browsing menus and quickly swiping between them
  • Tiny screen
  • Occasional lag
  • Only 3.15MP camera with no flash
  • Doesn't come with headphones
  • May be too highly priced
  • The chip is rather sluggish and surfing the net is not much fun on that small display
  • Which has disappointing resolution too
  • Small screen
  • Low-powered specs
  • Screen is a little too small
  • Screen looks bad with moving content
  • Hard to remove backplate
  • Short on internal storage
  • Soso camera
  • No Flash support
  • Modest spec
  • Camera quite poor
  • Small screen hampers the web browsing experience slightly
  • No headphones supplied
  • Small amount of onboard storage

  • Cool pebble-like design. Lightweight. Improved Sense UI experience
  • No LED flash. Not enough CPU power for high-end games
  • It's comfy in the hand and handles the basics well. The HTC Explorer certainly has a unique appeal....

  • When the HTC Explorer was announced our first thought was "Nothing we haven't seen. Next one please" but we admit we were wrong. The 600MHz processor did much better than expected - the chipset is much better than what the Wildfire S had.The Explorer part...

  • Intuitive interface; Cute looks; Reasonably affordable; Nice battery life.
  • Icons are a bit small; No Gorilla Glass; Screen attracts fingerprints; Weak loudspeaker; Could have done with a faster CPU; Inbuilt file manager missing.

  • The HTC Explorer is priced at Rs.10,498, and at this price it competes with the likes of the Motorola Fire XT and the LG Optimus One. The XT was an absolute dud but the Optimus One is still going strong more than a year after its launch. However, with...
